beach time
We have a 2016 x3 2.8i,and i was wondering if anyone has taken their x3 on the beach. I want to do some surf fishing this summer and if this x3 has the capability to go in sand that woud make life a lot easier. thanks,Lulu49

It does pretty well in the sand, especially wet or packed. Actually a little better than some because it has the special mode for traction control, which is better for loose surfaces like snow, mud, gravel, or sand.
Your tires will make a very big difference on loose sand; the simpler the tread, the better. All of the OEM A/S tires fit this category. And another tip: If you're getting in trouble, stop! Don't spin your tires. Drop your tire pressure down to 20 psi or less and creep out of there. I'll stop there, because otherwise I'll fill this page. We lived in the middle east and took many camping trips in the dune regions. |

Hello

Driving on sand
Dreaming x3 is correct. A few years back I was in Abu Dhabi for the M experience (launch of the then new M6). We had one afternoon blasting around large sand dunes in the desert outside the city in the X5M and never got stuck. The tires had been bled down to around 15 psi. Don't forget to pump the tires up to the recommended pressure before driving home!

Driving on sand
Just sharing pics of the even so you can see what our X Bimmers are capable of:
Prepping and hydrating before the drive: BMW techs bleeding off tire pressure and re checking: My partner having a go at it - check out the terrain - this was the easy going part - I know because I could still hold the camera still: |

Thanks for sharing your experience with your x series on the sand. Many years ago i took my Jeep on the sand in New Jersey. we did take air out of the tires to get better traction.
