Racechip Info

So i figured i would post it on here to see if anyone had a set of the instructions for a Racechip Ultimate. I just picked one up off the forums here, and have reached out to Racechip but besides sending me a few pics to help with install they have been mostly unhelpful. I just wanted to see if there was anything out there that says what the dials/settings should be on it for like a base level, and where/how high things can go.

I was also curious about how to set it back to stock as i think there is supposed to be a little switch or something to revert the tune to stock. Mostly because one of my goals is to take it on the dyno, and it would be nice to see a before and after run to see what it makes.

Well got it installed and everything figured out and Im really liking it so far. Think I got all my questions answered, and Im looking forward to turning up the dial a little bit to see the gains. Right now I just got back from an out of town trip with it on the beginning setting, and didnt have tools so couldnt turn it up. But Im sure it has learned enough to move on to the next setting. I already really enjoyed how fun the vehicle was to drive, so looking forward to seeing what this unlocks.

I assume you know this by now:

The LEFT DIAL / S2 - Lowest performance increase to highest settings: 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

RIGHT DIAL / S1 - on gas cars has no function.

STOCK settings for the X3 35 are: S2 – B | S1 - 1

What are your settings? And which gas brand and octane do you use?

I'm often up north, and when running Chevron 94 there, and with S2 set at 0, I'm unfortunately getting check engine lights. They mainly happen when going up hills on the highway. They go away after a few restarts, but obviously I'm guessing the engine is pulling timing.

So it looks like I might have to drop it down a level again.

I have always used Shell 91 octane here since its not ethanol blended. I talked to one shop and they were able to guide me to starting it back at S2:B, and currently it is at C. I will likely turn it up another notch when i gas up next. But Im guessing with 91 I wont be able to turn it up much more.

I just switched S2 to D yesterday...still in the break in period, but I like it better than C so far.

They say at least 100 miles on each setting to allow for the computer to adapt properly. Unfortunately, I have had a (hopefully) unrelated issue pop up...hard shifts when accelerating too quickly and then drivetrain malfunction popped up (and cleared). I have had a chance to scan it yet to figure out what is going on, but I think it could be a bad ignition coil as I recently changed those along with the sparkplugs.

If the car drives fine without RC active, then it is the software the RC box has that is causing these issues etc.

I would not increase settings on low 91 octane, for those that think ethanol free gas is good you're wrong. Ethanol increases octane and if you want to increase settings (run more boost) you need more octane simple as that.

I don't use RC anymore but I had it on my X3 28i for 2yrs problem free on 93octane!
Now I am running Flash Tune via Bootmod3 because its simply the best way to truly keep the car smooth, happy and fast!

i see so the racechip is a piggy back tune? Happy with your flash tune compared to Racechip?

thanks for this, would be interested if you can confirm its not the chip. that's the only thing making be jittery about pulling the trigger.

I confirmed today that the problem I am having is NOT the RC. I installed the dummy plug on the RC harness to bypass it and I still have the problem with the hard shifts and occasional "drivetrain malfunction" that clears itself and nothing shows on check control. The X3 goes to the shop tomorrow for a diagnostic to figure out what is going on.

I think Im on the D setting now and that is likely where i will leave it now. I havent encountered any trouble codes or problems, but im pretty happy with how its performing. And while I agree that ethanol increases octane, 91 octane is still 91 octane. If its ethanol blended, its usually a lower octane base with ethanol that boosts it up to 91 octane. I also usually stick to 91 because while 94 is available at most places, if i drive out of town its harder to come across.

@merlin82 and those who have installed RC on their cars, have you seen any improvements on fuel economy? RC website says up to 20% and just wondering if these claims are actually true.

Thanks for your info here. Really excited to get one

Not true in my experience. Fuel economy was about the same if you discount the effect of my lead foot from having more power on tap. If you drive the same, fuel economy shouldn't change too much.
