Can roof rails be ordered in black without M-Sport?

First, let me say this forum is great. I just recently purchases a 2011 X3 35i and the guidance I received by reading all of your posts was extremely helpful.

My question: My biggest complaint about the X3 are the satin roof rails. Does anyone know if it's possible to order black rails without getting the M-Sport package?

My X3 is scheduled for production in April, so I assume I can still tweak things if needed.

I think you can order without roof rails and then buy black ones as an accessory. Shopping list: Rail: Left 51 13 8 047 359 Right 51 13 8 047 360
Nut's (6) 07 14 7 195 759 Clip (14) 51 13 7 070 747
I almost forgot a six-pack with refreshments.

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one who hates the satin silver rails on Ã* dark colour x3! It makes the car look smaller imho, very strange as this same type of rails would make Ã* x1 look just more big.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how easy they would be to add after the car is produced. When I was at my local dealer, there was an X3 on the lot without roof rails. It was ordered by a customer who decided she wanted roof rails after the car was delivered. According to the dealer, it was not an easy fix because the head liner would have to be removed (I've not verified if this statement is true).

It'll maybe be easier to get them in satin and have the roof with rails repainted

I believe this is correct. It would be costly and time consuming to add them.

My CA and SM told me the exact same thing, they mentioned that the roof rails are very much intergrated with the body in new x3, hence they advised me to add if I want one when I place the order. After build, they said it will cost 2 to 3 times the cost of the roof rails itself to put it on the vehicle. I decided to go with the satin itself even though I did not like that very much, I thought its better to have that instead of not having one.

You would expect a premium brand to give the customer the possibility to chose whatever combo he wants. bwm is failing bigtime with the available colour and wheel combinations for the new X3.
the frustrating part for me is that I love the curves of this car, I would really want to order one but I need to be able to configure it the way I want it.

Idea: How much you guys think it would cost to have the satin silver rails painted in black while on the car? and while we are at it, also let them paint all the plastics like it is in the M-pack but without the M-aero pack... I think this would look really extremely nice :-)

What we're all forgetting here is that there's a constraint with buying entry-level vehicles from premium brands. Yes, the X3 is fabulous, but it's not a 7-series, and we're not paying 90,000 american dollars (base) to create an individual composition on a car that is meant to be the automotive bridge between the upper-middle class and upper-class.

Sorry but the x3 should not be seen as entry level mate. THe 1 series, the 3 series, hence even the X1... these are entry level cars. The x3 and 5 series are premium cars that should give you premium options
anyhow.. I'll quit my complaining and check my options now... we'll see what happens... maybe the new A6 or a 5 series... or maybe I wait for an X3, dunno what I'm gonna do yet

Well see...I know it shouldn't be, but the X3 is BMW's entry level SUV in America (until the X1 release in Fall). I have mine, it's VERY nice, but it's not an X5 inside and it's not hard to tell the difference. Putting things in perspective, any car that comes with leatherette as standard with optional leather isn't really what I would call a grande-cruiser.

Hi,

I'm of the exact same opinion, and plan to vinyl wrap my roof rails black. Car will be Alpine White w/o X-line.

Vinyl wrap

Really excited to see this post... Although nobody has posted in a while. Karl, did you vinyl wrap? How'd it look. Any other options at his point? Just received 2012 x3 35xi jet black. Love black vehicles, no M sport also don't like the idea of putting silver on he roof

If you didn't get the roof rails, does Thule or Yakima make a rack system that fits the 2nd gen X3?

Isn't the x3 equivalent to the 3 series; while the x5 is equivalent to the 5 series.

Therefore, x3 = 3 series?
