moonroof noises
Seems that as temp drops below 50 plastic crossbar and sides of moonroof are creaking like crazy. Anyone have a solution for this?

A common and very annoying issue. There are some solutions on this forum that involve adding small pads to 2 spots in the sunroof. If you search yee shall find.

It's that time of year again! Been dealing with this every winter since 2007! Yep, my last X3 did it too!
I've tried the fix with felt and that works for a little while, but I can never get the noise to go away completely. Dealer wasn't able to replicate noise two years ago, so I'll be looking to add more felt or something this weekend! |

I took mine into the dealer and they fixed it. The Service Dept joked that they get people coming to them from other dealerships because they are the only ones in the area that can seem to fix it. I am very happy with Kimberly BMW in Davenport, IA if you are in the area.

most ppl use the term sunroof.
i feel like there's almost no point of going to dealership if they can't fix it first hand. the more you let them troubleshoot it, the more they will mess up. |

I see a couple of people have used velcro but I am not sure if they are using it as just a filler like putting one side of it on or if they are putting one side on crossbar and one side on sunroof/moonroof edge.

my dealer failed to fix the issue so i had a go myself...
I cut 2 postage stamp sized squares out of a piece of self adhesive draught excluder tape (the spongy type) and stuck them on the two pads towards the front of the sunroof, you see the pads rise and fall during operation of the sunroof. Needless to say this fixed the problem and now 8 months on everything is still fine. The only minor niggle I have is that when the sunshade is fully pulled back i get a slight rattle from it - doesnt happen when its closed though - need to have a play around with that one

There was a service bulletin for this. Had it done on mine a couple years ago but the problem is back this winter. Going to get them to look at it again since I am still on warranty.
