ConnectedDrive "VOICE"

Is anyone else annoyed that the Voice for the News is a German person who can not speak correct English! I have never heard some many words spoken so badly with such poor enunciation . In age of voice technology BMW should be able fix this.

I suspect the voice has been finely calibrated to match most Americans' ability to speak English correctly...

The old Tom Tom's with regional British accents were brilliant.

Clearly u do not have this feature because it is not about being a woman but someone who can speak clear English and since most every word spoken is wrong. FYI the car is made in South Caroline and US market it the largest market for BMW.

I guess the solution is to not listen to it if you don't like German accented English. Try Voice of America.

Not to be a jackass, but the above post isn't exactly Shakespeare....

For the Dutch language the voice of the woman also has a strong accent. It is horrible and annoying. It's the same voice Audi uses (at least for the Dutch language).

I cannot understand why they don;t put a little bit more effort in making the voices better. Even more considering that BMW is a multi billion $ company. If I wanted cheap satnav I'd bought a cheap car.

The voice control menu uses a different voice that speaks brilliant Dutch!

The BMW assist convenience plan allows news to be read. You buy it after you have bought your vehicle. 199 dollars per year.

Seems like a waste of money when I can listen to web radio and stations like BBC Radio 4 or World Service or just plain ol' NPR to get my news.

+1

I used the weather a few times when I forgot to check the iPhone before starting out. I also used Yelp a couple times and thought it was not bad, but not nearly as good as it could be. For $200 a year I just couldn't justify it. I can use 1/4 of that to try out new iPhone apps or feed subscriptions to things that are far more "convenient". BMW should ditch this satellite thing and focus on a more robust iPhone app that integrates with iDrive and make sure that it's upgradable a couple years back -- the iPhone should be doing the heavy lifting and iDrive is clearly already able to handle the graphics. I'd pay a reasonable amount for that app.
