Case and point. BMW thinks Americans are stupid children who will fall for anything. What they do not understand is that there actually are smart Americans who are fit to work in jobs more intellectually rigorous than at the Spartanburg plant. They save their marketing ploys for us.

That's a pretty big slam on all the people making a living working in the Spartenburg plant.

+1
Maybe since the older X3 lost market share each year (fact) and got passed by just about every competitor (Q5 etc),...along with the public screaming for a better overall vehicle with increased demands on build quanity are what forced BMW to move the X3's manufacturing out of Europe and out of a contract 3rd party and into the USA. Ok...I'm sure cost had something (big) to do with it also, but that comment is really off base.

This all goes back to the "Priority 1" mystique. I remember when I bought my first 3 series, about 17 years ago, there were "secret options" that you needed to know about and demand, when you ordered the car. At that time, it was an electric rear sunshade. There have always been special Priority 1 options, to make your BMW a little more special if you are willing to demand it and pay for it. My SA at the the time acted like he had never heard of such a thing. Until I took out a BMW order sheet that I had downloaded. In the X5, there was that the red M3 paint or Estrol Blue for $3000. In the 5 series, ventilated seats were priority 1 too. The only difference now, is that BMW took the secrecy away. I never did use that rear sunshade...LOL.

I think the "Priority 1" posters have it, but I was scanning the X3 brochure over the weekend and their recommended exterior/interior color combinations. Basically, almost all combinations between interior and exterior colors work, except for maybe 1 or two, and that might also be why the SB requires special consideration. I'll verify when I get home tonight. Maybe they don't recommend SB with Mojave or something like that.
