I contacted Bimmer-Tech as well and found their price to be reasonable.

That said, I want to do the installation myself but I received no response from Bimmer-Tech when I enquired about installation instruction for DYI. Unfortunately, I considered the lack of installation instructions a bad omen and passed on the Bimmer-Tech solution.

There is no DYI recipe how to do it..
But you can contact your local BMW as I did and get the official instructions. I read them before buying the kit.. and decided it was best for a third party to do it for me!.. not a big fan of removing inside panels!
If your '14 F25 X3 has PDC and Professional Nav.. The OEM kit will have no issues. I had mine done this past Thursday. No issues whatsoever.

That's what I thought exactly. For cars without PDC I think aftermarket solution like Jemko's is the way to go.

I prefer OEM but don't think it's doable without PDC.

To be honest I would prefer to do the work myself because I don't trust the service guys... even though the panels may be difficult to remove.

I'd appreciate if you could scan the BMW instructions.

My car does have the Nav and PDC.

If you want to stay with OEM.. there is also a retrofit kit that can be applied before the camera retrofit. Yes, this can get expensive with all these retrofits!

lbjgh:
You can find good info about your current vehicle (using your vin number) or good info about your vehicle series (not using the vin number, and see options available that nobody will tell you about.. how I found out about the retrofit!)... here... http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/acc...catalogue.html

Ordered my X3 three weeks ago and reading this make me happy that I got the back up camera option. I was encourage by a few people to get it. Did not think that I needed it badly, but after test driving, I realize that the back was a bit high for my height and comfort.
Hope something works out for you.

Seems like this thread reached dead end without much useful information. Any other spot on the net where I can find how to install OEM cam? I am not interested in 3rd party solutions.

It seems that original retrofit kit can be found for less than 500eur in EU:

Why would anyone go for more expensive 3rd party retrofit kit that might interfere with your warranty??

I decided not to get ripped off by different variants of this retrofit. Can I just buy a 10eur cam, slap it in the back, connect to CIC FSAB port and code iDrive to display the video feed when in reverse or with a programmable button? 10 eur seems like a reasonable price for this kind of feature.

Recently, I went with Bimmertech and a professional installation. It wasn't cheap but I like it a lot.

I did it myself with a unit from emerald integration. back up and forward facing cameras as well as a mirroring device for my phone. it took an afternoon and saved a ton of money. they have excellent customer service I felt with Sean and he was excellent with helping the install. also did it without cutting or splicing a single factory wire

I think you are better off going aftermarket save a little $$ I believe you can get one that's compatible with that android head unit you installed a plug and play the unit I have replaces the existing hatch release you would never know it isn't factory
