Undercarriage detailing
I always make an effort to clean the underside of my car with every wash. This either involves me getting underneath and scrubbing or just spraying it down with simple green and letting it sit and pressure washing it off. I've been doing this for the life of the car (2 years) and this method does keep it as clean as the rest of the car... but recently I've noticed that while it's clean its not as shiny as it once was.
I know you can't really see much underside, but you can see the rear struts when driving behind, and I'm nuts, so its bothering me. I've tried polising the struts and waxing them, but after 2 washes or so it just goes back to being dull and dirty looking when it's not. The parts where I waxed actually looked MORE dull than the unwaxed parts after a few washes which confuses me beyond everything. I know this isn't a detailing forum but does anyone have any suggestions? Is the underside of everyone else's X3 all dull and faded too, even when clean? |

I can honestly say that I have never seen the underside of my car past what I can see from a standing position directly behind the vehicle and the only image that comes to mind is the muffler and exhaust tips. However I can see that everyone does have their own preferences when it comes to features that really catch the eye. I myself can't stand a dirty windshield regardless of whether it is mine or anyone else's (I reserve a special fear when driving behind cars with filthy windshields...how does one drive looking through a mud-caked windshield?).
Sorry for the off-topic comment there. Have you tried using any of those tire/rubber/plastic blackout products instead of wax? I don't know if those will hold up any better after 2 washes though. The only other suggestion I have is perhaps painting the parts using brake caliper paint? |

Well if I'm ever unfortunate enough to get run over by an x3 I hope it's one with a shiny bottom
