How did your X3 handle in the snow?

How did your second generation X3 handle in the snow? Do you have All Seasons, Snow tires or other tires?

Thanks in advance!

I dove mine in the snow several times last winter and even with the stock all season tires it handled very well.

went to a ski hill when it was snowing last year. I have all seasons. Stopping and turning you have to be mindful of the x3's momentum. On the highway I was passing all vehicles in the unplowed lane without any drama.

With Blizzaks, absolutely incredible!!

Drove in white out conditions during a blizzard at night through unplowed lanes while passing semis on a ski trip to VT. I was beyond impressed.

However, like most vehicles, it is only as good as the proper tires you have on it.

I am a big winter tire fan...That said, am hoping the Pirelli all seasons will be good enough with Xdrive and my in-town driving I do

I have the Perelli P7 18" tires and did a little driving through some steep mountain passes with 6+ inches of wet, slushy snow, plus some plowed snowy/icy winter road driving as well as some offroad driving through some really slick mud holes. The car generally handled well in those conditions but you will want to play around with Traction Control, you can enable this by hitting the DSC button briefly. Traction Control can really increase the amount of traction you get in slippery conditions although it's not clear how this affects the steering ability of car as it reduces the amount of DSC functionality. Can't comment on snow tires -- where I live in the dessCalifornia we have to carry snow chains for extreme icy/snowy conditions. Most of my driving is in the low dessert where it doesn't snow

Did great with the 19" All seasons that came with it. We only got 70" of snow so for us it wasn't a bad winter though.

This is great to hear. We have the stock pirellis as well and will use them this winter. should be ok for Chicago snow.

I have the 2011 X3 M-Sport with all-Season tires. The X Drive system is unbelievable in snow, slush and icy conditions. I was very impressed with the system. Previously had an 08 X3 and it handled well but the 11, X3 seems even better. Hope that you enjoy yours this winter!

Driving in snow (reborn)

I know this is an old thread and that there are other threads out there relating to driving in the snow, but I thought I would try and get some feedback from people who have driven in the snow in their X3 M Sport with standard OEM tyres.

I don't wish to start another debate on winter tyres , as I am purely interested in how well the M Sport version holds up on small amounts of snow (UK style) and careful driving (not driving like Lewis Hamilton).
I will certainly be interested in how well it copes in reverse as I am a little sceptical judging by how much it can rev by just going up a slight incline! But I am really keen to know how well the M Sport rear tyres cope, being how wide they are (I am referring to the 19" wheels by the way).

I am interested in this thread . My S drive X1 is awful in the snow.

Have ordered a X Drive X3 and don't intend putting winter tyres on for driving in town / A Roads.

I assume the standard tyres should cope with these conditions well enough if it snows

For driving on cleared / light snow A roads the standard tyres are able to cope fine.

We do have winter tyres and for driving in snow these are the b's & e's .... Coped really well with up 10" snow during last winter, so was fun to go on fresh snow down the lanes...

But for main road stuff standard tyres do indeed perform fine.
