Apple Carplay in older models?
Hey all,
I'm currently in the market for a used (2012/2013) 2.0d xDrive X3. One of the things I wondered about was Apple CarPlay - is it possible to retrofit CarPlay support into three or four year old X3s? Thanks for any advice! |

Not without changing the iDrive system to a newer one (NBT Evo).

How could apple carplay be retrofitted if it wasn't ticked as an option?

How do you get to the connected drive store? I came across it once by pure chance whilst scrolling through the menu's whilst in traffic and been unable to find it since.

Not possible. only Cars with iDrive 5 or above. you will have to retrofit a newer NBT head units and i drive controller to have a chance at this.

I am assuming I have iDrive 4 because my X3 was custom built in February 2016 and my controller still has the TEL button.
How practical is it to upgrade this to iDrive 5, both in terms of expense and the actual hardware modification? |

For people with cars that don't support CarPlay, have you considered any of the HUD products like:
navdy https://www.navdy.com/ or hudly https://gethudly.com/ |

You have iDrive 4+... if you go to NAV and hit the options button, scroll down to "Version" and you will see NBT_EVO somewhere in there... The problem with the NBT Evo headunits that came loaded with iDrive 4+ is that they only have 2GB of ram and idrive 5 needs 4GB.
