We can not track BMW Cars here in the UK, don't know why, even the dealerships seem lost as to just were these cars are in the pipeline
My X6 arrived 5 weeks late, then this 550i M Sport turned up 4 weeks late!!
BMW had no idea where they were!!. Yet you guys can track it throughout it's journey.
I have my VIN No; could someone check and see what the cargo numbers are on these ships?.

Yesterday i changed my x3 3.0d order to an x3 3.5d order. The price difference was to small to resist this opportunity :-)

Expected delivery: january 2012
Can't wait now to drive this!

Don't really understand the "emissions" argument for why we can't get the x3 35d here - that engine already exists in the x5 here.

I'm in the crew that's suffering with the 35i when I really wanted the 35d... Didnt want to pay the extra 10k for an x5 35d...

NO it does NOT, this engine is a new 6 pot all alloy construction, the first applications ,so I have been told is in the new 2012 X3 and the 6 series, the 5 series and X5 will now be added as we speak. The new engine runs 313BHP and 630Nm.
This was from BMW UK.
UPDATE: the X5 will NOT be added.

In trying to track down the wind noise pn my 30D I did a back-to-back test with a 35D today. I really didn't want to drive a 35D in case it put me off my 30D! Here are my thoughts:

It's a bit quicker and a bit more responsive. Neither improvement was massive but they were noticeable. I felt the bigger difference was in reduced turbo lag, this was to the point where lag wasn't really noticeable.

I don't feel bad now about "just" having a 30D so I'm pleased I drove the car. Would I get a 35D if I were ordering now? Probably but it's not that big a deal, it would depend on the lease cost and also taking into account the higher road fund licence band and insurance costs.

Thanks! That's interesting - and reassuring.

Hardly ever doing more than 2000rpm in urban traffic, so I guess the difference isn't dramatic, since compared to the 30d the peak power gain of ~50hp comes at an increase of 400rpm.

Nice to see you drove one, it would improve power wise once loosened up, I find mine very quick, what sort of RPM's did you take it too?.

Took it to 5K. The power band was wider for sure and there was less variation in push as it shifted gears, the 30D tends to tail off before it shifts.

My 30D has only done 2.5k so far, it should loosen up some more yet too.

It all boils down to California. If it's not good enough for California, it doesn't pass the 50-state emissions regulations tests, and it doesn't make it here. It took years for the 335d and X5 35d to actually make it here after released in Europe. They had to redevelop the 35D M57 to pass the emissions tests, which lowered output by some 20hp I believe. Also, BMW wants to maximize 35i sales in the US for as long as possible so that demand for the 35d is high and its sales don't superimpose those of the 35i.

The time that it takes for the 35d demand to reach its peak is probably enough time for BMW to redevelop the 35d N57 engine for the US.

Keep in mind, BMW released the first M57 engine back in 1998. It was continuously changed and retuned for different cars with varying outputs. This has already happened with the N57, so time will tell what we get in a few years.

I imagine we will see a US-spec version of the X5 xDrive40d engine (N57) rebadged as a 35d (which would push out the current M57) with two years left in the model run before the X5 sees a redesign onto the F-series chassis. Around that time we should see the X3 xDrive35d and maybe a 335d and 535d if we're lucky.

I've got mine ... and it's great!

Struggling with the break in period though!

Honouring the rev limit and speed limit recommendations in the user manual, and no kick down, but other than that, I am driving it "positively".

Can't wait to see what it really can do ...

Probably should have paid someone to break it in gently as I seem incapable of being restrained for more than 30s.
