2011 X3 2.8 Break-in Rev Limiter?
Wife's new X3 2.8 bogs down when you downshift. Does this vehicle have break-in rev limiter? Its does it with traction control on or off. Also battery service light has been on since day one. Wife commutes 26 miles per day. Car has less than 500 miles. Dealer says drive more to see if battery will charge. Not impressed so far.

If you have access to a good voltmeter, you can check the voltage at the power jack (lighter socket). It should be between 11.7 and 12.6 volts with the engine off and if the battery is charging will go up to as much as 14.8 volts with the engine running. The only exception is when the battery is almost fully charged and the car is cruseing. then the alternator will stop charging and the voltage will drop until you apply the brakes which will cause the alternator to switch to a high charge condition. Telling you to "drive more" with a battery light on is ludicrous. If the battery is not charged to at least 80% they should charge it. If the light stays on you have a serious problem that should be fixed ASAP. If your transmission is automatically downshifting by applying moderate throttle, the engine should rev freely and you should accelerate briskly and smoothly. If the engine seems to "bog" (loose power) when dropping down a gear or two you have a very abnormal condition. Bring it in immediately. If you're causing a forced downshift by "flooring" the throttle, or if you're revving the engine above 4500 rpm with only 500 miles on it, you're not following the BMW recommended break-in procedure and could be causing extra wear and possibly other damage. |

Bring it to the dealer ASAP, I know it have been some issues with batteries for F25 and the new F10 series. Remember to get a new battery, if the generator and regulator it's ok.

Kind of makes you wonder who the genius at the dealership was who checked the car out during the pre-delivery prep. That is IF anyone actually checked the car at all. I was not at all surprised to find our car delivered with incorrect tire pressures and no rear/front tire pressure differential as well as with an empty windshield washer fluid tank, but delivering a car set to "transport mode" or with a fault indicator light on is inexcusable (if that's what happened). Of course, if that's what happened, the dealer probably won't admit it anyway. |

There's not a lot of love for dealerships on either side of the pond!

Also, even if you want to run your tires a few psi higher than the factory recommended pressures, it's usually a good idea to maintain the front/rear pressure differential. For instance, rather than running the "light load, low speed" (cold) factory settings of 32F/35R, I like the slightly "crisper" handling feel of 35F/38R for normal driving, and don't find that the ride suffers at all. |

Update: It was left in transport mode. Battery warning light went out when transport mode was turned off. So much for dealer prep. The wife likes it, so I guess all that matters. And, she does tolerate my bad Chevrolet habit. I'll put some pics in the black x3 thread asap.
