X3 20d on order - any comments?

Hi,

Placed an order for my new X3 end November. It's a company car, so need to stay within certain limits, but would appreciate feedback in case someone has some first hand experience about stuff I perhaps "need to have"...

Spec on order is:

X3 20d
8-speed auto
Alpine White
19" 309 alloys
Satin roof rails (stock here)
Sports seats
Black nevada leather
Satin silver interior trim
Sports steering wheel
Comfort package (Xenons, PDC, light package, bluetooth)
Foldable dimming mirrors
Rear view camera

Checking to see if dealer can arrange to install twin chrome exhaust tips.

Will tint rear windows after delivery, in a darker tone than stock.

Thanks,

Karl

Hi,

Dynamic package isn't available here, unfortunately. The only package they offer here is the "Comfort package", with Xenons, PDC and lighting.

I have two kids, so Oyster is unfortunately out of the question. Really looks the part...

Was considering changing my order from oyster to black and interesting you say the cabin seemed dark - would like to see it in person myself (probably will stick with oyster)

My dealer actually had one exactly like I've ordered (Alpine white w/ black leather), and I didn't find it dark at all. With the light inner liner and silver trim, it rather feels discrete and exclusive, but not dark.

Then again, choice of color is highly individual.

Are you allowed to modify your company car - might have insurance implications?

The single oval exhaust looks fine when the chrome trim is fitted

Is that single chrome trim also an accessory? Hadn't seen that one, only thought it was the dual exhaust that was available.

Naturally, we're not "allowed" to modify company cars. But you can do it anyway... My current company car has a loooot of mods to it, which I will be removing before returning it of course.

Here are a couple of shots I took at the dealer's the other day. Apologies for the mobile phone quality...

I'd recommend an upgrade to alu interior trim rather than satin silver. reports suggests the stock satin silver looks a bit plastic and cheap.

Otherwise our cars are similar but I went for 18" v-spoke and navi pro plus heated steering wheel.

I would have upgraded to Brushed Aluminum, but since I'm on a fixed budget (company car allowance), I had to prioritize. In my case, it was a choice between the Brushed Aluminium and either Rear View camera or Retractable mirrors, and that felt easy...

The cars I've seen live with Satin Silver actually looked quite OK. Also, I'm contemplating having all the interior trim refinished anyway.

I usually have plans for all my cars. Some plans fail due to time and budget, but they rarely end up the way they left the factory...

Yes, genuine accessory (£46 from memory)

Cool, thanks! I'll have a look at Swedish pricing for the single exhaust trim vs. the double exhaust option.

Alpine White - nice. That's what I've ordered too but I've gone for an Oyster interior.

Got a demo X3 at the moment in Deep Sea Blue and I'm afraid to say it's fugly. Looks nothing like the Space Grey X3 in my local dealer.

The interior is oyster and it makes it feel very spacious (well, I know it IS spacious, but it feels roomier than the black). Demo car has fineline wave wood - not really my thing and IMHO doesn't really go with the rest of the trim which is a mix of black plastic and chrome/alu. Each to his own, though.

Nice spec! When will you get it? I also was thinking of getting double exhaust (wish I could afford the 30d), but I think it will be pretty expensive so I stick with single chrome.
