Software Update (Multimedia & Tele)
Has anyone used, successfully, the "software update" for multimedia and telephone? I did some searching of the site and didn't really see much out there, so if this is a repeat, please repost the appropriate thread.
I followed the directions, but I get an error indicating that the file is "invalid"?? First, I checked to see what version I had (MX-003.004.031, TX-003.004.031) - I have 2012 purchased in October 2011 (US). Then went to www.bmw.com/update to see what versions where out there. It's kind of clunky since they don't just come out and tell you the versions for the update, so you have to look at the installation PDF to see that the file: UPD01004.bin will bring the software up to MX 3.5.4, TX 3.5.4. Great so far. You enter you last 7 digits of the VIN to be sure you get the right update. You put the file on the root directory of a flash-drive. I used the BMW flash drive, but any would work I recon. Then head out to the car and go to the "Software Update" option through the iDrive/USB in the center console (important since the glove box USB doesn't do the update - so I'm told)... Did all that... file "invalid"... Any ideas? Thanks

Blah!
Nevermind. Just for grins I used a different flash drive. Worked.
If you get an error like that, just try a different flash drive.

In the UK with Pro Media we can do updates over-the-air. Pretty cool. Takes ages but saves all this hassle.

Which Option?
Is that option from the same screen as the "Software Update" screen? I never did see the option in the car, but I noticed in the manual it mentioned that. I'm guessing in US we don't have that option.
It took about 2-3 minutes via the USB.

Questions:
I was able to Download the actual bin file for the upgrade. 1) Has anyone been able to Download the PDF file the explains what the update covers and how to install? 2) Is there a version number for this software? I don't want to 'downgrade' my current system - the X3 was made last month - how out of date can it be? |

I did the upgrade a couple months back. Not sure what all I got but noticed the Bluetooth audio sounded worse which was interesting. I may rollback the change as I haven't found any other significant improvements, at least nothing applicable to the other functions we use frequently.

If you're using an android phone (ICS V4), then updating your TX & MX software will fix the older issue of your emails & texts not appearing in iDrive.
If you feel the upgrade has made other features worse, yes, you can roll-back the update, as the option is there to do so. Dave

I have just done this up-date on my 2011 X3.
I was one of the people who couldn't use the call answer button on the 'wheel to answer the first call to come in after Bluetooth connection had been made (iPhone 3gs) this was very inconvenient for me as I am in and out of the car all day. Well, having done the up-date I made a test call from home phone to iPhone and was able to answer it first time off the button on the 'wheel, so I'm happy However, I must say that as my car was at the dealer last week for a service I would have thought that the software would have been updated to the latest version automatically then. |

I stand corrected with respect to ICS itself not providing MAP. Obviously Samsung has built this into my newly minted OS on my GSII, with the updated v4 OS.
