Gonna need new tires soon
Can anyone give me some real world info on buying some run flats? The stock cinturatos are getting close to needing to be replaced. I’ve looked at the P-Zero but have heard the wear is terrible 10-20k. What tires have you guys purchased and had no regrets on. We would most likely buy them from Discount. Thanks in advance!

See https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1739672. Perhaps the OP can offer some advice on his tires aside from the fact that they saved his wife from being stranded.

I think the best way to go is a car with run flats and a spare tire. The issue with the X3 is that if you order the spare tire option, they raise the cargo floor 3" and we use ours for trips and need all the cargo space we can get. |

I replaced the factory cinturato's on my wife's X3 with Michelin Primacy MXM4. They are much quieter and smoother then the Pirelli's.

Well after some research, I have decided to purchase non-runflats. I went the Yokohama YK740 in 245/50/18 size. They got very good reviews and have a 60,000 mile warranty. I also paid for the discount tire warranty in case anything else happens to them. I pick them up tomorrow and will give my impressions after. Thanks for the info!

^^contact either BMW roadside or GEICO, may even purchase a small air compressor and fix-a-flat for the trunk.

I went the non-run flat route several years ago. In addition to my regular tool kit I now carry a battery powered tire inflator, dyna plug tire repair kit, a scissor jack, and a can of tire sealant. Everything fits either under the cargo area floor or drivers side cargo area cubby. Cell phone for backup in the event of a non repairable failure.

Well after thinking it over this weekend I have decided to go with runflats on the car. We are getting the Michelin Primacy MXM4 in oem size 245/50/18. I just want the extra piece of mind that comes with runflats. I know runflats are expensive but in the end its my wife and newborn that will be in the car. If it was my car and I only drove it then I would be ok with non runflats with some tools in the back to repair. Will update today once they get installed. Discount has the tires for $260 each, will try to get them to knock off a few bucks. They are usually really good about hooking us up.

Anyone having this issue as I am getting new tires this morning on my 2020 BMW X 3 Competition. I have 7000 miles. The outer edges of all the tires have worn unevenly like the picture above (no metal yet). The dealership told me this is normal. M models have aggressive "stances" and wear like this.
Below are photos I sent the dealer after 4000 miles. |

It looks to me like the higher wear is on the middle/interior part of the tread, which may mean they're over-inflated. The side/edge wear would be expected if you like to corner aggressively a lot.
Add in the camber setup for the sportier stance and this is to be expected. When was the last time the alignment was checked?

Update: The Michelin Primacy MXM4 are excellent! The amount of confidence they inspire is amazing. Houston rained today and the roads were wet with some drizzling and the tires handled the roads perfectly. Super quiet compared to the Pirellis. 70-80 mph driving was nice and smooth with hardly any noise and felt very planted. OTD $1,3xx from Discount with the road hazard warranties. I highly recommend these run-flats if you are needing replacements.

Uneven X3 M Competition Tire Wear
At 7000 miles all four of the the outer 1/3 of the darker area without dust were worn flat. I don't do aggressive driving. Pressures were 36 psi.

I'd get your alignment checked. Mine (staggered setup) was wearing outside front edges and inside rear edges. A proper alignment showed there had been excessive tow in on the front and tow out on the back. Came from the factory like that. Also, is 36 psi recommended pressure?

Mine are at 36 psi as well. I think this may be a little over ideal. Mind you, I haven't had my alignment checked yet, as I'm only at 60k miles but I probably should. I definitely will when new tires go on (nonRFT).
Currently considering the Conti PureContact LS based on TireRack reviews and test results.

Glad you didn't go with those YK740. I had them on a Subaru Forester...they were fantastic in the wet and snow but absolutely were horrid in the dry as a result of the extremely soft sidewalls.
I went non-runflats and selected Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season Plus. The SUV line of the Zero series provided higher load rating which should prove better tread life for our application. They are also fantastic tires from what I've experienced so far. PS: Also went with Griot's tire pump with sealant since we don't have a spare. Should help in most cases of flats, provided I don't have an outright blowout. |

^ If it was just me driving the car, I would have gone with non runflats but its my wifes daily and we are expecting a baby soon. I just couldnt shake the feeling of uneasiness with her stranded on the side of the road
