Insurance (UK)

Turns out the X3 35d M Sport (Brand new, 313bhp) is much cheaper to insure than my 530d M Sport Touring (2011, 241bhp)

Who'd have thought!

Just need to sort out GAP and Tyre insurance policies now.

Have you had GAP and tyre quotes from the dealership ? .... just wonder how they compare with independents ?

MS - Yes I have, they aren't competitive.

They have also changed the terms of the tyre insurance - between 2 and 6mm of tread means that if you make a claim you will only receive 50% of the value of the replacement tyre. The old policy would pay the full amount all the way to the legal limit.

The policy that Car2Cover offer seems much better so i'll go with that. Likewise for their GAP cover. Buy both together and you get a 10% discount I think, or so the email they just sent me implies.

I'll forward the BMW details to you.

Hi stumblingtrout, can you post the figures for insurance you have. Rough area of the country, approx. age (if you don't mind) & NCB.
I've used Admiral Multi car policy with good success. You just have to be cute come renewal time, they try to stop you creating a new customer quote on the website

I don't have tyre insurance (I have 17" standard non run flat tyres).
I got GAP quotes from a couple of independents, and the dealer lowered my finance APR to make their GAP 'appear' the same. It's worth a punt.

Philtrick123 - East Anglia, 25 y/o and 8 years no claims. Quoted £808 with Direct Line but they require a tracker, £613 with Admiral (but I added some extras which took it up to £790 such as guaranteed no claims, injury cover, key cover and hire car cover.) Cover is with my 51 year old father on the policy, and of course my other half who has 2 fault claims against her name.

Had recently paid £970 to insure the 530d so the refund from that policy will pay in full the new policy.

Result.

Same for me recently picked up my 30d msport after trading in my X3 20d se and insurance was about £40 cheaper at £210 with Hastings direct. Max no claims 47 yr old with wife on the policy, Guildford area and £100 excess.

Just sorted my GAP insurance and tyre cover.

I went for RTI rather than Vehicle Replacement in the end as it sounds like much less hassle. Was about £500 for both, 4 year policies and the GAP is transferrable (unlike my warranty direct policy which I will have to cancel with no refund)

Chap at Car2Cover was really honest about everything and didn't try to push any particular product. Good service.

Can't comment on their insurance but I think it's underwritten by one of the big insurers.

My x3 was cheaper to insure than my 8yr old Accord on this side of the pond.

I swapped a E83 X3 3.0d SE for F25 X3 3.0d XDrive SE (F25 more powerful and quicker accelerating) - F25 was >12% cheaper to insure
