Its not strange to see small wads of banknotes left on a bench, when they fall out a pocket and its easier for the person who lost it to go to an ATM and get some more than it is to remember where they might have left it. You'll find the same problem in the OPEC oil states. BMW spots a wealthy market and adjusts their pricing to what the market can pay. MB, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Bentley all do the same.

And if you believe any of that bullsh*t I'll sell you a bridge.
We live in a country with draconian taxation rates to pay for our inefficient government and overly generous and much rorted welfare programs, a protected car industry which makes private imports complicated and prohibitively expensive, and a set of Australian Design Rules which means every car in Oz has to meet some puritanical restrictions on the most obscure car design elements in order to be able to be road registered.
BMW gouge us incredibly, but we stupidly keep going back because we like the product.
Rant over.
that's bad though when considering the dollar value...now I realize why my sister in Melbourne bought a Holden Captiva 7 instead of any imports.

Wow, that's really mind-boggling. How much is the room for negotiation usually? $20-30k?

Until we get to a point where there is excess stock (and currently we have to wait 3+ months for stock) I dont believe there will be not much more than $5K in a good haggle. (and one or two exceptions above this will not mean everyone gets it - because there is always someone who has a rediculaously good discount story )

20 or 30K.... If only.

No, nothing like that much. The funny thing is that with all the taxes, a 6.5% discount on the car equates to more than a 10% discount on the total price.

Hi All

X3 3.0D on the water. Ordered 8th of December, the first date we got after it was built was the 29th of January. Dealer said Don't hold your breath.

White beige interior plus zenions. $80,000 drive away, don't forget that there are no 70% to 80% margin to BMW extras!! We use a $180 Tom Tom, she who holds the purse strings will not allow $3000 to $5000 GPS that likely has out of date maps on it. Will need to spend a bit on a fifth rim and tyre so we can drive out of town. The Dunlop run flats are in stock in Melbourne and Sydney!!

I calculate that to be $85,393.27 on the road if you paid RRP, so you got about $5K off. Which seems about right for a car with one option.

There are lots of claims about costs of options having high margins, and it does seem you can get better discounts the more options you have.

Does anyone know for sure what the margin is on the Options in Australia?

Thanks.

PM me UKSA.

I have a VIN number! Delivery date has been brought to early April instead of May.

It arrived finally yesterday...

As ordered, and wow what a car! It is brilliant! That 3.0l diesel has plenty of go! Love the Oyster / Carbon Black combination, and I am stoked with the M Sport bits (I hadn't seen an M Sport X3 prior to it arriving yesterday). The steering wheel is great.

Still working my way around the car, but highlights so far - love Top View, love the auto boot lid, getting used to Stop / Start.

So far, just very happy with it!

Swallowtail - congradulations on your arrival. Yes the 30d engine makes all the difference in my opinion. Should be ticking over the 15,000 km (in 7 months) over Easter so I'll be taking it in for its first service shortly. Not a problem to report in that time. We did have a creaking drivers seat but that appears to have fixed itself up. Returned a couple of weeks ago from nearly 5,000 km in 2 weeks. Great highway cruiser which averaged around 6.8 l/100km for the trip which included some city driving in both Sydney and Melbourne. We're very happy with our choice (our first BMW). I hope you get to enjoy yours as much.

Congrats.

Good to see you went the 18" wheels so we wont get them confused in the car park.

Agree on 30D. Sometimes wish I had a 35D but not often.
We still have a rattle in the dash near the stereo, but the missus hasn't taken it in to get looked at so I cant complain.

Our tail gate is making a few strange noises, hopefully that will motivate the speaker of the house to take it in.
We recently hit 10,000km in six months - we seem to be doing a lot more driving than we did in the old Kluger.

OT: the ar$ehole who bought our old Kluger still has not submitted the transfer documents. We have now been sent his re-registration and served with speeding tickets based on his driving. Pain in the ar$e as I have to get stat decs and prove to Main Roads and the cops that I sold him the car over two months ago.

.I can force the transfer by lodging my copies of the transfer forms, and filling in a declaration that I sold him the car. Then they just start mailing the notices to him.

It turns out he doesn't even get fined for not lodging in the two week period he was supposed to do it.

Then the speeding tickets have to be lodged as a stat declaration in front of a JP and sent to the cops.
I'm just dirty that he breaks the law, doesn't get punished at all and I am the one who has to do all the work to stop myself from getting a fine.
