Just stick the rubber bumpers as per the picture above and be done with it... BMW obviously doesn't care about the problem or doesn't subscribe to the K.I.S.S. principal.

Yesterday i went to STAPLES store, i picked up a pack of 12 clear round bumpers for less than 3 dollars. I applied the round bumpers on as described on the pics and i havent heard any noises.. Also it rained last night, no sign of water leaks. I have to do the same fix on my fiancee's 2014 x3.

good job lbjgh!!

THANK YOU!!! I used little felt ones instead of rubber ones (took less than 15 seconds), but basically the same thing, and the roof is silenced! It's been three days now. Heavy rain, and no leaks - everything seems tight.

I'll report back as temperatures get much colder in the coming days, but on my way to the store, the sunroof was creaking like crazy, and on the way home, and since then, blissful silence.

Frankly, even if I have to replace the little felt things occasionally, I'm happy, although I wish BMW would just design in a more permanent fix.

Thanks, again, lbjgh. In particular, appreciate the clear pictures. I knew exactly what to do.

This minor mod has worked for me and it's been about a month with temperatures cold enough to cause the sunroof to squeak.

What is amazing is that BMW doesn't have a solution to this, nor does my dealer, yet someone here found a 50 cent and 2 minute solution that actually works!

Last year my dealer even got BMW to approve the installation of an entirely new sunroof cassette, which must cost thousands of dollars

I had the same problem with crackling in the panorama roof. Silicone pads are solved problem.

If you open the pano roof you'll notice two small plastic finger-like pieces that make contact with the underside of the pano roof panel. They make contact with the panel when closed and are easier to see when the roof tilts open (not slide open) on either side of the car.

Sitting in the driver's seat you should be able to see the piece referred to on the passenger side and vice versa.

Just tilt open the roof and stick on the felt/rubber bumper.

I'm a little worried that this will put extra pressure on the mechanism and cause damage in the future. What do you think?

It won't hurt the mechanism. If anything the plastic would crack.... didn't crack last year with plenty of minus 20c weather on my car or this year.

Ah, thanks! Look in the middle and not in the front?

I too did the plastic bumper trick and works like a charm. Not a squeak since. Let's hope it doesn't wear out any seals or anything else prematurely.

Could you please point the exact location where you have placed the bumpers?
I could only assume that it's the rectangle black plastic bits but not sure if I'm correct.

Thank you.

I had my entire sunroof rail system replaced to fix this. Some combinations of roof + rails just doesn't fit together right and always creaks. Since the replacement, no issues or sounds coming from the roof.

Replace the whole pano roof cartridge? No thanks! I can't even imagine the parts replacers (techs) doing that on my car.

Why not? They are trained professionals. I don't understand why people feel the need to disrespect an entire group just because of a few bad apples. I don't know what your profession is but I am sure there are people in your field that are not perfect, not you obviously judging by your comment.

No.

Put a rubber "cabinet door stop" on the piece that's like an arm facing up.
