In the uk for the last ten years or so the new number plates have been made up of two letters, two numbers then three letters. The numbers represent when the car was first registered.

When the '55' plates came out I looked for "RU 55 ELL" to spell out my name.

It would have been mine for a cool £150,000 ! Didn't bother in the end!!

OOOSQ has it down below - but Jeez, I wish we had affordable plates here. $75 - we pay more than that to get our stock plates re-issued if we damage them.

I spent a good 20 seconds trying to work out if this was rude. I came up with "Beaver Sexy Waxer" and then I figured you were't trying to be clever...

Its sad that you had to explain that.

Some new issue plates cost $3000+. Then of course, if you want to buy one of the popular pre-owned plates some have sold for over $100,000 at auction.
The Q1 plate owned by our resident Hairdressing King comes to mind.

No personalised plates in Italy... we already spend too much in gas/Diesel, around 1.8/1.7 Euro per liter...

Crazy wasn't it.

I have the euro design plates which were $500 odd when they were released but I just cant justify $2K..... its absurd.

For a short while I had an acquiescence who bought plates and sold for profit. He considered this a full time profession - give me strength!

I could have had "BU 57 OFA" for next to nothing but I'm only ever called that on forums and such so didn't bother. Got my real name and initials (sort of) instead. (manutd123 just logon to the DVLA site for unreleased numbers.)

UK plates can cost over $10000 for some - X3 BMW would be like that.

I'm having second thoughts about having personalized plates because it makes the car recognizable. I kinda like being inconigto.

Anyway I'm gonna install the plates since I can always take 'em off if they cause grief.

I always get a laugh at the Can Am commericals they show here in San Diego. They show the male driver and then as the narration says "You've ridden some things hard in your life", they pan the shot to his wife or gf.

Interestingly enough, and through some weird act of fate, my new X3 will be on a 12 plate and on the DVLA there is a regular plate for £600 which spells my last name if you accept the 2 as a T.

It's quite freaky and super cool, but for some reason it just doesn't look very nice when I mocked it up on an X3 build photo, so I haven't bothered.

Really, I always wanted HOR53Y but when it was available it was stupid money

HO12SEY would also be ok, but it doesn't seem to exist ... or was sold already!

I have recently purchased (for the X3 when it arrives) a plate that is my first initial, a lucky number repeated 3 times and three letters that are recognisable as my surname (my surname is 5 letters, but there is an obvious 3 letter abbreviation). Cost £200, so was worth it. If anything better comes along, can always change.

My husband has his initial, the lucky number once, then the same 3 letter abbreviation of our surname. Looks cooler than mine, but wasn't still available with my initial

I was thinking of getting the personalised plate "TEBITEERF" here in China. Of course nobody would be able to make any sense of what it means, until you see it in your rear view mirror!
I am sure the license office would not politically accept the reversed writing.
One way of getting your political message across.
