My X3 purchasing experience. (X3 times 2)

I finally am comfortable in sharing my X3 purchase experience. Back in April I purchased a 2011 X3 28i, Sapphire Black with Oyster leather. I was happy. Two days and 150 miles later on Easter Sunday while I was on my way to work about 2 miles from my house when I heard a clunk from the powertrain and a drivetrain malfunction message flashed on the display (it said to drive moderately). I turned into the nearest driveway and the car stalled. I got it started and made my way back to my house after it stalled a couple of more times. I called BMW Assist and got the car towed to the dealer. Monday morning after they diagnosed it they determined it was a engine control computer. Problem was there was not any in North America or even the World with the exception of the engine assembly line. They ordered one and determined it would be over a week prior to receiving it. I was a unhappy camper but what could I do. The dealer seemed to be trying to do their best and the General Manager gave me his own loaner (a well equipped 535i) to drive. All was as good as it could be.
Well 2 days later East Tennessee got hit with the bad storms moving throught the area. On Friday I decided to visit the dealer to see how things were going. No new news, part still on order. I decided to check out my car while I was there and imagine my happiness when I noticed the dealer had left my car out during the storm and it had received significant hail damage during the storms.
And the dealer knew about the damage but was just waiting to tell me later. After a very animated discussion with the General Manager they realized the correct course of action was to let me get a new vehicle. They changed a allocation order that was supposed to be built the next week to the exact vehicle I wanted. They continued to let me drive the 535i and overall seemed to have done every thing possible to turn this into a positive experience. So i am set to pick up my new X3 35i, Deep Sea Blue, Oyster from the factory PDC on Wednesday the 15th. I think my dealer definitely went above and beyond what they legally had to do to make my first BMW purchase experience a positive one given the initial circumstances. I just hope the new one does not have any computer problems!

It is good to hear of instances where the dealer does do the right thing and make it up to the customer. Hopefully, your troubles are at an end.

Wow. Bad luck indeed. Happy ending though

Why did you change from SB to DSB?

Well the black one at the dealer had the options I wanted and they only had black or white at the time. So when I ordered I got the DSB I liked.

Did the dealer upgrade you from a 28i to a 35i for free? If so, that is going above and beyond. Same options other than the model change?

No that was not done for free. However I don't think that they HAD to do anything more than fix my car. Driving a fully loaded 535 was quite nice also. Other than the 35i engine and the cold weather package I added, same options (sport, leather, HiFi and Sat radio, rear camara and parking sensors).

Good to hear your dealer is making it right! My dealer took care of me as well. I'm still driving my 35i loaner until my new one is produced. Glad to know there are still dealers out there who are willing to take care of customers!

Bad to hear that you experienced both problems. Good to hear that the dealer went as far has they did.
