Special Order...
I'm currently working out the details of my order for the X3 and looking at completing it with the 40/20/40 split rear seats.
There is the aditional cost of 400$ for the special order and I'm wondering, since I'm already paying for it, what else could be added as a "special option"?? Thanks

Sorry,
the 40/20/40 split seating is not a regular option of me. It can't be selected in the car configurator or at the dealership. Once requested I was told the option may be included for X amount but they also add a 400$ Special Order fee. The question is, does anyone know of a list of Special Order options or can I go to any countrie's BMW site and select what I want? Since I'm already paying the fee, might as well make the most of it...

I think special order items are country specific. Your split folding rear seats are a standard option in the UK. I guess you could look at the UK website and if there are options listed that aren't in Brazil's option list, they could be special order options for Brazil.
This is all assuming that it's not an extra $400 per item!

The "special order fee" is just a way for the importer to fleece u (as well as compensation for doing extra admin work by ordering options that have not been negotiated with BMW AG in advance). Most BMWs (apart from CKD markets) are sold on the basis of individual custom orders anyway.
AFAIK there isn't a list of "special options" available, as every option is available to everyone as long as the item fulfils local regulations & operating environment. BMW AG has the final say in whether an item is or is not allowed. All u can do is ask for wht ever u want, all they can do is say no. |

The consumer culture in NA is buying cars off the lot, but most of the sales are still custom ordered due to the big permutations allowed on individual spec. As a matter of fact, the 3 German premium brands are aiming for 100% custom orders in their production process with minimum dealer stock holdings.
