m40i driving fun as RWD car

4'000 km already done, and I have noticed that (compared to my X4 35i) the car acts more like a RWD car. On wet roads (with Pirelli Sottozero 20" Winter tires) I had already 4 situation of oversteering.

I'm the only one?

The X-drive system was reworked for the M40i. It has more power going to the rear wheel then your 3.5 had.

HI R11 M, yes I remember having read this information too, but I did not except that much.

RWD drives better yes, but not in the snow.

Ggalanis i could not find yesterday by Google, but i think I saw once 30-70%. However this statement is not confirmed and must be taken with a bit of salt.

SANK, according to BMW this should only be possibel with Sport+ - otherwise ESP should take care of spinning rear wheels AND oversteer. I use Sport+ during winter or ESP will interfere with my driving- also on 35i .

I have a figure of 60/40 for STD X, so 70/30 for M40i is probably true.

Well Tjalle,

My wintertires were a bit used (if not almost dead), then add a fresh rain on pavement, a bit of hysteric driver (me) due to the engine and exhaust sounds, so at the end the Sport mode makes the car already dance in curves... Of course DSC came to rescue me.

Sport+ mode and hysteric driver mode will be used outside public road. It will be safer for everyone I presume.

What about your exaust sound. Have you put the summer tires already?

Sank, yes summertires are on. Even when no disturbance from studded tires, I need to go to Track-mode to hear exhaust sound - but then it is great.

I understand that all M40i owners are very happy with their cars, but since I have two cars, mileage on my 35i prevents me from buying M40i - I will have to get comfort in the looks (and sound) of my Klappenshalldämpfer.

Tips: going to Italy you should wrap your transponder in aluminium foil, when away from car - then the thieves can't steal your signals and drive away.

Mileage is improving a bit after 8'000km. 2 weeks ago I reached 597km with 11km left and 0,5 Liter petrol left !!! Today I reached 649km with 20 km left and 1 liter petrol left!!! So i have some hope to regulary make 560-580km (vs 590-630km for the 35i, Best with the 35i was 690km)[/QUOTE]

I trust Italians to be able to load the car on a truck if they can't steal it with the signal of the transponder.

Enjoy your day Tjalle

I don't think that's what he meant by mileage, but my 35i's gas mileage improved quite noticeably around that mark too.
