Why does BMW do this (TPMS)??
I thought my 2015 650i was "better" than my 2014 X3 because it shows actual tire pressures to the tenth of a pound whereas the X3 just showed green, yellow or red. Then I bought Bimmercode and coded my 650 to also show tire temperatures, so then it was even better. Except today I coded the X3 to show all that same info in under 5 minutes. Why does BMW leave such a useful feature turned off in "lower end" cars? Is it really just to make higher-priced cars seem more loaded with features?

Who knows!
The owners manual for my 2012 X3 (28i) says the iDrive TPMS will show only GREEN (or yellow...low pressure) for USA model cars and the note below that is a comment that Canadian models will show Press/Temp data. Bit off topic but I coded my car a year ago (w/Bimmercode) to display Press and Temp values; it all worked fine until one sensor failed and I had it replaced - now the iDrive shows the units of measure (PSI and Deg F) but there are no live/actual values for the two parameters. I contacted BimmerCode and the reply was: "BimmerCode/BimmerLink" cannot fix this issue, sorry". |

Most people don't know, don't care, wouldn't understand. Green = good, they move on with their lives. It's a select few of us that care about the actual pressure.
(And of course keep in mind that it's questionable if the sensors are actually accurate down to the tenths, but that's a different topic) |

My TPMS data shows individual wheel pressure in PSI, including decimal plus tenth value (as an example, 34.8 when cold).
