Scissor jacks are not recommended for the X3, because of they are flimsy and not up to the task and fiddly to use. Remember you need to have axle stands if you are working under the vehicle.

I use the EXPERT 2 TONNE LOW PROFILE TROLLEY JACK WITH 'QUICK LIFT' FACILITY

http://www.drapertools.com/product/3...-Lift-Facility

Naturally you do not carry it around in the boot, it is meant as a garage tool, that will last a lifetime and is suitable for any car. I purchased mine from Costco at around £89. Costco also do another one that is a copy of the one above for £69. They sell out fast.

I can have my car safely up off the ground safely without any fuss and all 4 wheels changed over in approximately 30 minutes using the adaptor and Draper Jack.

So as not to damage my expensive alloys, I use 2 x ALLOY WHEEL FITTING ALIGNMENT TOOLs FOR BMW X3 F25 (2010+) LUG NUT BOLT [4E]. It can be purchased here...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALLOY-WHEE...FD0MB2N16JVZrw

Peter - thanks for that information. I have ordered 2 x alignment tool, and the rubber jacking pad. As I intend to keep the X3 for many years, these items will make life easier than having to drive to a dealer. My wife makes great tea!
I'll keep a look out for an 18" winter (square) setup over the coming months as spring has finally sprung in London town :-)

Can anyone tell me when you change over wheel sets does the TPMS just work after you reset it - or do you need to do anything else?

I presume you have the older system where the wheel rotation speed is monitored. You just ensure the pressures are what you want, then using the iDrive menu, reset and drive off. Bobs your uncle. Nothing else is required.

It really depends

If both sets have the same valve system then yes

If you are putting an older set into the new TPMS system equipped car then you will get error messages each time you start up

I sucked up and bought a new set of valves for the s/h winter set I bought as they were off a 2013 car and I wanted to put them on a 2015 car with the newer system.

Not sure if you'd get errors the other way round though

How much were the new valves? I would want the same information come winter time (OCD?)

I battered my BMW dealer down to about £350 fitted

I think you can get them from Germany for about £140 or so .. But them you have to get them fitted

Local tyre place told me they needed special tools to fit the valves and it would cost £100-120 to fit them

So upshot was I went the OEM dealer fit route

TYre depots are still learning about these TPMS systems. My local tyre fitters Tyreworld in Eastleigh are part of the Protyre group. Friday last week I was down there getting my new 19" wheels and tyres fitted to the car. In doing this they had to take the valve from one wheel and fit it to new alloy which they did no problem. The total bill for swapping 4 wheels and tyres, balancing them all, changing one valve and checking the tracking on their Hunter which did not need adjustment was £38.

I use a protyre in Slough and they are excellent. All 3 of our cars go there for anything tyre related

Scissor jacks are what BMW supplied with the older X3 and X5s. They're not a problem for emergency use, you just need to make sure the capacity is correct.

When I'm not on my phone I'll dig out the link for the 2 tonne scissor jack I bought. It's neither flimsy nor fiddly.

BMW newcastle are doing a new set of 17" alloys with summer tyres for £700,but they have standard valves. What will the vehicle do if it can't find any tyre pressures?
Do all you run winter sets with tpms sensors fitted?
