gas mileage on 2015 X3 28 I4
Hello all we are new owners of a 2015 2.8 I4. We moved from the 328xi and were hoping for better gas mileage then the 318xi delivers. So far after 4,000 km the mileage is very poor for such a small SUV@13l/100k . Is it going to get any better? I was expecting 8-9 l/100km.
Here are things we love about our new X3: HUD Heated rear seats for the kids. Heated steering wheel. Voice activated NAV. Very comfortable seating. Birds eye view front and rear cameras. White on Black exterior Xline styling. What kind of mileage are others getting? Cheers Mr Smith |

^Depends where you drive the vehicle. I have the pre-LCI and it does amazing on the highway and will easily do 7.8L / 100K or around 30 MPG US but in the city the mileage is horrible and can be as high as 16.8L / 100 K or 14 MPG due to nature of city driving of stop and go constantly. The issue with the small motor is that it is amazing when it comes to highway but with a fairly big car for the engine, the motor is strained and thus mpg reduced. P.S. I also drive with a really heavy foot and aggressively in the city so my numbers should be worst case scenario. Hope you enjoy your car.

Not sure how the numbers convert but we're really enjoying the gas mileage on our 15 X3 28i. Averaged 24.5 mpg the first 10k or so. Reset the computer and now we're averaging 25.0. Have around 14k miles.
So much depends on how you drive, my wife uses nothing but comfort, no start stop. I sometimes switch to sport and on rare occasion play with economy / efficient ? Really hate how the engine responds in that setting though so it doesn't get used much. Anyways, very happy with 25 avg. Use 93 octane all the time, car has had two oil changes already. Just be smart about how you drive, don't floor it from light to light. If the light ahead is red, coast (saves your brakes too). If the road is wide open, then have fun. Hope yours gets better.

when I fill a full tank - as in really full to the brim I see DTE as 829km. I am sure I didn't get such a massive number first time. I took the delivery of car with 5km driven and now it is at 750km run, second tank. I was impressed to see 829km to empty for a full tank load. Mine is 2.0Diesel. |

I am actually in the runnin period and about 850kms done. The manual says 2000km is the settling time for the engine so patiently waiting. ecoPro is great at giving mileage but it takes off the BMWness of the car. Trying to live with it looking at numbers |

very poor city mpg
I posted this on another thread, but decided to add a post here too because my mpg is dismal.
I have a lead foot but my average is 15 mpg (95% in comfort mode) in city driving in the last 500 miles; My commute is pretty short (about 10 miles) in heavy traffic both ways. Sometimes I have the feeling that my X3 does a better mpg in sport mode. Could it this be true? Why is my mpg so low? My lifetime average in 5500 miles (city+hwg) according to the iDrive is 17.9 mpg Info: 2014 X3 Xdrive28i, 93 octane gas, Pirelli P7 cinturato all season RFT, Miami FL PS: In Hwg driving I havent paid much attention but last time I checked the mpg was above 25 |

I just picked up my 2015 xDrive 28i this week. I've put 400 km on it so far.
18.8 mpg (US) or 12.5L/100km with over half highway and with a good deal of "Eco Pro" driving. (According to the trip computer, which I reset when I topped up the gas the day I got the car). I'm really hoping everyone else is correct and it will get better after a few tanks. I was really hoping to average closer to 23 mpg (or around 10 L/100km). |

I guess I am lucky... here is my stats from the day I picked up my 35
Picked up my new X3 35 yesterday in Kaiserslautern.. Drove back to Italy today. car had 12 miles on it when it was delivered.. First leg back (Ktown to Freiberg) I got 20.6 MPG.. driving around 80-115 MPH all the way... Second leg was Freiberg to Milano Italy (through Switzerland) 120 KPH or less the whole way.. Got 26.7 MPG... Milan to My home with crazy Italian traffic 22.1 MPG I think that's pretty damn good for a new car right out of the box... |

Be patient the MPG will get better. On my new X3 the MPG is not very good which is about the same as I was getting on my last one. Once you break it in you'll get much better fuel economy. On my previous X3 I could get over 30 MPG on the highway. Sample of the trip computer data from an actual trip attached.

Comfort mode 95% of the time, mixed city and high way driving, and I'm very gentle on the gas pedal. I hope it gets better over time. My previous cars, I always got the rated mpg right after I drove it out the dealership lot.

I got average 25mpg after my 3 days road trip.
It went all the way up to 27.3mpg when the road condition is great without rain. On the way back, it was crazy heavy rain and the number came down dramatically to 21mpg. Looks like Brake Drying feature was working hard and mpg were greatly sacrificed on top of the resistance of water on hwy. |

It will get better in time
I have a US spec 2013 X3 2.8 in Germany. Initially the mileage wasn't very good and I was concerned about that, but in time (break-in) it got better. With the ability to run some high speeds here on the autobahn the mileage can really vary based on that. My normal driving is close to 50/50 (town and autobahn) and I usually do not drive faster than 135km (a bit over 80mph). I average between 24.5 and 26 mpg. I have found that when my winter tires are on, my mileage drops at least 1 - 1.5 mpg. All in all, I think the little 4cyl turbo performs pretty well (its not too hard to get it up to 125mph) and delivers decent mileage (as long as ya don't drive with a heavy foot) I just wish it didn't SOUND like a crappy little 4 cyl! Someone at BMW needs to figure out how to add a nice exhaust note!
