Radio problems

Hi everyone,
My very first post, please assist.

My car radio system keeps on jumping between the #1-8 preset buttons and up and down the radio stations. Even when the USB is currently playing, on the display you can see how it jumps to #1 then #3 then #8 then #3...... constantly.

Do I need to reset my radio or what can the problem be? It is expensive to start to replace components if you are not sure if it will resolve the problem.

Please try and assist.

Victor

Maybe the buttons are stuck? Those buttons seem a bit sensitive. Even just barley touching the buttons without pushing them causes the presets to show up to me. Did someone accidentally bump something into them and a few got stuck and its pushing other buttons in as well?

Not sure. Thats where I would personally start.

Any other electrical issues with the car? Usually when BMWs go through a bunch of weird electrical stuff, it points to a bad battery. But if its only your radio I am pretty sure your battery is fine.

Thanks for the reply. Nobody bumped it but i noticed that when i close the boot it sometimes go away. Do you think it might be a loose connection by the battery.

Moring All.

I have rebooted the radio as suggested. This cleared the 1-8 assigned buttons.
It is still doing the same thing but now it cycles from #1 unassigned #3 unassigned #6 unassigned.......... and sometimes it displays "Press an hold to assign button"

I will check the battery connections in the boot tonight. Maybe it will help just to disconnect the battery for an hour or so.

I am desperate and don't want to replace the battery, I-drive, radio and display.

Thanks

I would definitely confirm that the radio buttons are clean and nothing is on them/sticking.

Does anyone have a link on how to remove the front face of the radio. The videos on the internet is not the same radio as mine. mine is the air conditioner control on top and the cd player part below it.

Thanks

Now the radio control panel is dead. Really think there might be a loose connection. Don't know how to remove the panel to check the connections.

Please help.

Honestly with the symptoms you’ve mentioned. If you’ve ruled out restart and stuck button. Sounds like a short somewhere. Although I haven’t run I tot his on any bmw. I have had this issue with a garmin vhf and had to replace the unit. It was a short in the face and kept auto scrolling the channels.
