Engine Oil change
Hi.
I have a 2016 X3 (F25) and a 2010 model 520d (F10) both require and oil change. Previously I have used genuine BMW 5w30 LL04 oil. Can you please advise me if I can use Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL for my vehicles. |

I have not looked closely, but I do not know that we have that oil in the US. I've never owned a diesel, but I was under the impression they used a different oil. Anyway, although I tend to use oils that say they meet the BMW spec, I would like to know how any oil suitable for a Porsche or Mercedes is not suitable for a BMW. Silly. I'm sure that oil is fine. Cute little oil jugs you have over there.

If it meets VW, MB, and Porsche diesel specs (and it does) then you're fine. Some of the toughest specs to meet are the VW507 and MB 229.51, so I would be perfectly happy with that oil in my diesel BMW.

FWIW, though not a diesel, I know someone that has been using Walmart Super Tech full synthetic 5w-30 every 7k miles from 30k to over 300k miles in their 2001 330ci and it's still running strong. The LL spec is probably more critical if following BMWs longer mileage oil change intervals and or frequent/sustained autobahn speeds.
