5's are obviously not selling as well as expected. But it's really no different than a rebate or financing offer on "selected models". It's a way to get those who are leaning one way or another to select that vehicle and clear out some inventory/production capacity.

Well in a way you'll still get nav in the X3 but it just won't be free. Aren't they requiring people to option it in X3s now due to a shortage of parts because of the problem in Japan?

The X5 is due for a complete redesign in two model years (2013), well known in the industry, so many are hobenchmark lding off for the new one. Just like I did with the X3's which I replace every other year, I did not get one in 2010 as I waited for the F25. The F25 3.5 with VDC is truly a benchmark that looses no points to my 335IX, in fact the steering/suspension is much improved.
