M sport package has nothing to do with the steering. It's cosmetic plus the same sport suspension (which is not the same as changing chassis settings with DHP) in the SAP. You're not getting an M car, you're getting M styling.

Is it possible to double check if the setting in iDrive was set to control steering feel the same way? Maybe one didn't have the rocker to affect steering?

XRP, did you order Dynamic Handling Package? If not, there's your answer...the other one did and you noticed the Variable Sport Steering, not present on non-DHP X3s. And if you did order DHP, I've heard you can enable/disable the VSS function when using the Sport/Sport+ rocker switch in an iDrive setting, so you could check that...my answer should be taken with a grain of salt as I do not (yet) own an X3.

MSport package here in South Africa has the Variable Sports Steering as standard. I definitely feel teh steering tighten up when in Sport / Sport + mode.
