Time from start of end of production?

I ordered a 28i a couple weeks ago and the web site states "start of production"...what's the typical time until it states "end of production"? Thanks!

Specs:
Mineral Silver
Black leatherette
Heated steering wheel & front seats
40/20/40 rear seat
Nav
Rear manual shades
Park distance control & backup camera

FYI: According to the individual production video, our 35i was at "38 hours" production time when it rolled off the assembly line. Have no idea if that is total running time or if the line shuts down at night and the "sleep" time is not included. The on-line tracking scale is delayed a day or two as compared to using the BMW NA info phone number. Our car completed production early on Feb. 2 according to the info phone, but the web site didn't show completion until after midnight on Feb. 3.

Shipping from SC to Illinois took until Feb. 5 (weekend) and we accepted delivery on Feb. 7.

My car went into production on Feb 5 and was done by the 7th.

Too bad it takes 3-4 weeks to get to Oregon from SC. Lame.

Mine went to start of production on the 8th, but hasn't progressed further yet.

According to the website or 800#? For me, the 800# was updated long before the info online was. Odds are, your car is done.

The web site. I called the 800# too and it said my vehicle is scheduled for production with no confirmed production date.

The system always seems to be so slow and out of sync. But it basically takes three to four days to make the car. And it appears that they work on weekends.

we just went on the tour at Spartanburg (although it was the X5 & X6 line - not the X3). they said they run two 10 hour shifts. and the time on my video was about 38 hours too. they said it takes several days to go through the full process.

Mine went into production on Feb 9th and it's expected to finish production on the 17th, according to my dealer it will be ready for pick up on the 25th...

Does that sound accurate to you? a week for preparation center and transportation (to NJ) seems a bit optimistic to me, I hope I'm blatantly wrong

It's taking about 3 weeks to get from the prep center to Portland, OR. But I'm on the other side of the US.

Ordered my X3 on Jan 11. The dealer already had a build "slot" for the 4th week of the year which they used for my car. BMW sent me a video of the car rolling off the line on 1/28 and it arrived at the dealer in the DFW area on 2/3. Not bad at all. The BMW web site synchronization was not exact, but close.

Called again today. Says it's in the "paint shop" with an estimated completion date of today. I thought the car is painted before it's assembled? This sounds like the other way around...unless they mean it's being buffed up or something like that.

Yeah, that's a bit odd isn't it. Would be interested to hear from someone in the know.

Update: "en route to port of exit" is the message today; website still says start of production. Looks like it will probably be at the dealer in about a week at this rate. I was told late March, but it looks more like a late Feb delivery. Talk about being conservative! I guess they would rather surprise customers with it being early than late if a production issue comes up.

I called the 800 number today and have been told that the car has finished production and it's going through the quality inspection center today and tomorrow, should be at the dealer next Thursday... so yeah it looks like it'll be delivered before the end of the month.

Just curious--does anyone ever just give up and cancel? I am amazed at the folks in UK talking about 6-8 months when I've only been waiting 3 weeks.

I think many people would cancel or simply wouldn't order an X3 in the first place if there was a viable alternative but going for a competitor would mean making too many compromises for me. The Audi Q5 was my other option but once I'd driven the X3, there was no contest. We just have to put up with the wait unfortunately.

Someone said today a dealership was advising 9 (NINE) months for delivery here in the UK! I thought I would only be waiting 2 to 2.5 months when I ordered, total time will be 4 months. I'm sure anything over 6 months will put some people off.

NINE months?! Sheesh, they should at least start the depreciation clock now and give an opportunity cost credit when the "new" car finally shows up at the dealership ... and gets parked next to their 2012 demo!

Update: At Vehicle Preparation Center...where ever that is. I heard it right across the street from the factory in SC for anything made at that plant, and in NJ for east coast deliveries that come from Europe (3 series, etc)

Smile

My impatience was rewarded--my dealer told me today (2/18) that my X3 is finished and "at the final processing center," with shipment expected in 3-7 days! That's 3 weeks from my 1/28 order date. I would also note, however, that the online portal and the 800# still have it as on order awaiting a production date. So neither of those seem to be very useful. BUT--by week 4 I may be driving X3 home! Courage everyone! Be impatient and good things happen! (And my ongoing sympathies to those of you outside the US....)
