Movies played on Navi Professional?

Hi guys. Long wait remains until my new X3 arrives in March.

But one thing I bet that some of you have tried....

Is it possible to show digital movies on the widescreen via the USB interface? I'm thinking AVI's MOV's or similar playing from an external USB drive (disk or stick)

If it's not possible, I'm sure it's limited by software. Then it should be possible with a fix...

No, you can only play a movie directly from a DVD. Movie files on USB drives aren't "seen" by iDrive.

You can play movies through an iPod/iPhone if you have BMW Apps but not directly via a USB drive.

I think both methods are restricted to not show movies when the car is in motion but you can buy 3rd party kits to switch this restriction off (e.g. dvdinmotion). Not sure if this works for iPod videos too. I had my X3 coded to remove the restriction on videos viewed via BMW Apps and DVDs.

This could be good enough, but is this avaliable out-of-the-box or do you have to encode something?

Out of the box if you have ordered option 6NR BMW Apps. But you will need coding if you want to enable watching video when the car is in motion
