Stereo stopped working today
Our 2011 X3 has the professional stereo system. Today it stopped working for no reason. No cd, radio, Bluetooth, satellite radio, or voice commands. Booked into the dealership next week. Has anyone else had this problem?

If you haven't already, then try holding the on/off stereo button (volume knob) for about 30 seconds which should reset iDrive and then see if the problem persists. Probably won't help but might save you a trip

Thanks for the tip sfax. Tried it and the system reset but still no sound. Maybe we blew the amplifier? Looks like we're still going for a trip to the dealership.
We were having trouble with water leaking through the driver side bluetooth. That problem has resolved but maybe the two are connected?

Stereo still not working but something new is happening now. If we turn on the car after it sits for about 8 hours, a message appears stating that the battery was discharged and electrical devices were turned off. The only other time we have seen this message appear is when we had let the vehicle sit for an extended period of time; 3 weeks. I wonder if the stereo and this message are related?

Running the battery right down can shorten its lifespan dramatically so you may wish to invest in a battery charger / conditioner and also look to change your driving style so that the battery can recharge by itself. |

I don't think the "battery discharged" message is related to our driving pattern. We both use the shifters to gear down. Too coincidental that this message began the same week that our sound system stopped working. Maybe a bad amplifier is draining battery power?
On a side note, we are getting tired of bringing our X3 into the dealership. It is out first new vehicle, our first BMW, and this being our 5th trip to the dealership before our first year of ownership is frustrating!

Battery replaced at dealership today and was suggested to buy a charger. Audio still not working! Another appointment next week; frustrated!

Thanks Ant Man for your kind words. We actually had to bring the vehicle back in today because the roof liner is leaking again too! At least we were given a loaner for once; (after an angry email was sent).

1)What is the battery voltage after parking the vehicle? 2)What is the battery voltage after overnight? 3)If voltage is much lower overnight, remove amp and or stereo fuses and repeat 1&2. It could be some part of the stereo is shorted (failed) and drawing excess current overnight causing a discharged message. |
