Tuner options for F25

I have a Carbon Black 35i M-Sport on order (delivery in June) and was wondering if there are any ECU programmer options available for it? I was really pleased with the quickness of the stock vehicle, but would like to squeeze a few more HP out of it. Any help is appreciated.

swing by the 3 series forced induction forum and see if any of the N55 options would work for you...

turbo lag is part of owning a turbo....just like the head throwing back in the seat syndrome is too.... I do find however that the turbo kicks in here very low which is nice.

What I found on my test drives: DHP in normal mode has way too much lag for me...sport mode helps to make it better.

Lag in non-dhp vehnicles is not as bad as normal mode DHP (b/c dhp normal mode is actually "comfort" and not normal), however if you are trying to do more than every day driving, drop it into sport and not normal.

However....no matter WHICH x3 you have, off the line response/lag is going to be the same...just a matter of fact with standing stop turbos...but 0-6 and sub 6 second is awesome no matter what... please dont mistake turbo lag as time to downshift b/c not the same thing...many people mistake as though....drive around in sport mode and you'll see the difference. (and difference in gas consumption!)

Since I don't have any experience with turbos is it ok to engine brake the car?

I check with Terry Burger over at Burger Motorsports (burgertuning.com), and he has confirmed that their N55 Stage 1 will work in the X3 35i. For $380, you can add 50hp and 60tq to the wheels. It also shows on their website that the 2011+ X3 is compatible.

I'm not affiliated, just giving you one of the most popular options from the 335 community.

Don't see why not. If you have the 8-speed auto, you note that the transmisison shifts down when slowing, using the engine (and alternator) as a brake.

...if your dealer found it. If you remove the tune before your maintenance check ups and remove any codes, what your dealer doesn't know won't hurt you. I'm not avocating it, I'm just giving information.

Or be friends with one of the mechanics at your dealership who personally works on all your cars :-)

Does any one know if Dinan has anything in the works? These modifications would not void any warranties

The plug and play harness from Burger Tuning is actually undetectable once it is disconnected.

Does take that long to unplug the OEM harness-ready plugs... about 5 to 10 minutes.

If you're having an appointment with your local dealer, either for a regular oil change or for a catastrophic engine failure, just remove the PNP harness.

Of course, if you want to keep your X3 healthy for 10 years and 200 000 miles, it's not a good idea to raise to boost and try to extract more power from the whole drivetrain. There's a reason BMW is not delivering our X3s with more HP and TQ, and it's not entirely the emissions-tests' fault.

I just got my answer from Dinan.....Hi James, We are working Performance Software it now. No ETA yet from engineering. I would suggest signing up for the DINAN Newsletter as it will have the latest news and product releases. The sign up form is located on the dinancars.com home page on the right hand side. Base on what has been developed in the past...maybe we could hope for 25 HP...plus a free flow exhaust 15+ HP...and more important have a BMW dealer install the upgarde and maintain the warranty...I'd wait the 6 months!! MAX

Thank you for the help. I am leaning towards Burger, but hoping to hear back from ESS. I will keep the thread updated as I make my decision and try whichever one out.

For some reasons I thought the Dinan Stage 1 added 60 hp to the n54.

But this is the N55. It must have something to do with the complexity of the single turbo twin scroll versus the twin turbo.

Dinan will void your warranty as well unless your dealership is a dinan dealer.

I've used Burger tunes on my 335i and was impressed and fully satisfied. Is undetectable by the dealer when unistalled and had great performance for the money. I plan on getting the N55 stage 1 tune on mine.

I know this thread is a bit old, but ESS is down the street from me and one of the guys who does the tuning is a friend, so after I have my truck for a while I'm going to bring it down and see if I can't get him to look into it.

I'm not so sure about those piggyback modules that a lot of people use. Their entire purpose is to trick the ECU into thinking something different is happening than what actually is. Just doesn't sound like a great idea to not let the ECU do what it's supposed to do with all of its sensors working properly.
