Will we see new firmware for Bluetooth?

I am kind of dismayed that my android phone cannot get email/text etc thru BT. I have read all threads here and other forums on BT settings, tried all sorts of stuff, but this is not going to happen. BTW, my X3 is from Jan of 2012, working with Mot droid 3, but have also tried samsung charge.

I have been in other cars, much less expensive cars, that have better BT integration.

I would think that more functionality could be added via newer firmware, but don't know if this is on the BMW engineers todo list. Anybody know anything more than this?

hey there...it has less to do with BMW and more to do with google/android in that your android needs to support MAP (message access profile).

Check out the thread(s) below. Two things to note in the threads:

1. Yes, there is (or was for me and at least one other forum member, as noted in the thread) a firmware update available. Thread explains how to check and download it

2. If your current android is eligible for the pending ICS update, then this update to your phone will likely also address the issue, as it did for one forum member who's HTC Vivid was upgraded and subsequently worked fine

Hope this helps....
Dave

EDIT: P.S. my Galaxy S2 works beautifully, but it supports MAP and I also updated the firmware in the vehicle. My production was February 2011.

I really only got it working thanks to Dave pointing out the firmware update. And the ICS just made it better because now when I get SMS messages, I almost immediately get a notification on the iDrive screen (by way of an envelope icon). Helps out so much when you get a text message while driving so that you don't have to pick up your phone.

Just so others don't get disappointed, native Android ICS does not include support for the Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP). As with the previous releases of Android, some manufactures added support for Bluetooth MAP for specific phones. Appears that is still the case, as with the HTC Vivid upgrade to ICS (and others)
If you would like to add your support for native Bluetooth MAP support then please go here - http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9651
