Trailer Hitch Options for '15 X3

My 15 X3 28d will be ready for delivery shortly. Has anyone investigated hitch options for '15 X3? The dealer's price is absolutely ludicrous. I have an Execuhitch on my current BMW, and it is a nice setup but they haven't confirmed whether their current F25 hitch will fit (they think it will, but they haven't test fit one last time I checked). Uhaul lists one, but I'm wary of that. Any of the other F25 options don't appear to list anything for the 15 as of yet. Anyone have any thoughts?

I talked to the Invisihitch hitch rep last month here is his reply:

Our X3 hitch will definitely fit the new LCI 2015 model. The only thing that may change are the installation instructions, since BMW often changes the fascia and the location of the fascia fasteners at LCI. We will update our installation instructions just as soon as we can borrow the 2015 model from our local BMW dealer. Typically the changes to our instructions are minor.

Anyone have an idea if the BMW trailer hitch kit part # 82712157704 will work with a 2015 X3 28i (xLine)? More importantly, has anyone installed this kit on a 2015 X3?? This part shows as a match for F25 years 2011+. The kit goes for a modest $650 give or take. I have talked to a few dealers and they tell me it will not fit the 2015; however, almost every site I look at shows different years at the last year supported. Very confusing. The problem is the parts quoted by the dealer go for more than double that and double it again for installation!

I just spoke to Bavarian Autosport and ECS Tuning and they both confirmed that 82712157704 should be the right part for a F25 - 2015 X3. It's on order and will see how it works :-)

You shouldn't have any problem with the fit. A friend and I installed a Curt hitch, listed to fit a 2014, on my 2015 LCI 28d. I took us three hours. The single difference between the instructions and our install was disconnecting one additional wire to the bumper fascia for the LCI comfort access.

Thanks! Did you just mount the hitch or did you also hook up the wiring for
for the trailer lights?

Just the hitch for a bike rack.

the instructions they give from invisihitch are so-so … i watched a video on youtube hosted by etrailer(dot)com .. just search "X3 hitch installation" and it'll give you a good idea of what's involved. again, possibly minor differences. mine is a 2014 so i can't speak to that, sorry.

the only thing about it that i don't like is removing and keeping the actual bumper OFF the car … the hitch doesn't seem it offers the same coverage as the bumper did. oh well.

good luck, i hope it goes well!

I can confirm that the wiring harness in the 82712157704 kit has the wrong terminal for the bumper sensor on a 2015 X3 (and most likely the 2014 based on what I can find). The stock plug has 12 pins where the kit harness has 6 pins. As the harness is just an extension for this plus through the weather grommet, I am considering cutting out the extension from the harness and using the vehicle plug as is. A new harness will run almost $400 delivered and if this is the only change needed, then it's not worth it. My concern now is I have no idea if the control module is correct for the 2015.

Hitch installation for 2015 X3 28i (F25 LCI)

Trying to follow the letter of the law now to wire the harness and control module for a 2015 X3. It appears that BMW changed the parts for 2014+ and the 82712157704 kit is no longer valid. The actual mechanical parts (all except the wiring harness and control module) appear to be right, so buying the kit was not a waste as the individual parts would have been more for a 2015. The wiring harness is fairly close to the 82712157704 kit, but is it not exactly the same. The control module (pictured) accounts for the primary difference. The module has 4 ports A, B, C & D; however, the harness only has terminals for A, B & C as shown. It appears that the modules in the battery compartment sometimes do not always use all ports, but sometimes there are hidden terminals wrapped with other cables (I could not find one in the proximity).

Can anyone tell me what the D-port is?
