Internally broken and was causing a popping noise . It takes over a week to ship here and I thought about keeping the part to open it and show everyone on here but at $500 core charge I decided to just let it be.

I have exactly the same.
Car is on dealer's jack just today.
Claimed metal clicking from steering shaft on rough road.
Parts and labor for free, I will pay alignment and programming.
What year is yours?? Mine is X3 2011, clicking since 25 000 kms.

Great. I have the same thing, but my dealer says it's normal operation. Not sure what my options are. I'm still under warranty for 3 months. Help!

Mine is a 2011 model year. I hope you enjoy the new quiet ride after yours is replaced.

The only solution is to put it on a lift and move the steering rack back and forth to make it clunk/pop. Or if yours does it while just driving in general. Then ask the advisor to take a new vehicle out. It won't happen on the new one. The only other option is for you to take it in 3 times in a row for it. Or if the advisor is nice, they will put a case in sooner for replacement. Better to get it free now than out of pocket later.

Oh yeah I really enjoyed the drive into work this morning with the radio off and in silence. Amazing what we will put up with for so long that we just get use to it.

be sure... Speeding over the pot-holes today and clicking is gone. Unfortunatelly, because of ECU flashing they reset my coding back to default.
They called me frustrated, because my LEd's turn bulbs giving errors now and they cannot corect it... I told them don't worry...
