MPG for 2015 X3 xDrive28d?

Hi all,

Interested in this diesel version, I'm interested in the MPG for this engine. I can't seem to find information on this detail on the BMW site (very odd).

Can someone point me to the right resource?

Don't know what's on your BMW USA site, but given your "28d" engine is the same as what's called the "20d" in Europe and elsewhere, a look on any European/UK/Australian BMW site should be able to at least give you a feel for the fuel economy - keeping in mind the differing methods of measuring fuel economy between the countries.

Just check out the 328d touring and just assume it might be slightly worse since its a suv. According to BMW USA the touring get a highway of 43 mpg hwy so on the conservative side it might be two or three mpg off.

Careful - is that 50mpg the UK imperial gallon? If so, 50 miles/IMPGal = 41.6 miles/USgal.

Thank you. I didn't even realize there was such a thing. I was thinking I'd have to convert Liters but when I saw gallons I assumed it was the same as US gallons.

I am currently getting 34 MP(UK)G in heavy town traffic. In summer this goes up to 37 and on a long run up to 45. I think others have had better than this.

I hope the diesel sells well - so that when my lease is up there's a 35d available as well

I agree that would be awesome! to continue improving the 28d and have the 35d as well.

And the irony here is that an improved version of the BMW 4-cylinder 2.0 litre diesel (N47) already exists. In European markets and elsewhere its called the "25d" and is available in the F15 X5. Rated at 160 kW/450 Nm (218 hp/332 lbft) compared with the 28d's 180 hp/280 lbft. Why isn't this engine being used in the X3?

I think this is the twin turbo 2.0L Diesel which has been around for a while. It would be awesome in the X3!

The 50 MPG in the video is for the 18d Sdrive, not the 20d (28d in US market) Xdrive.

Not sure about Diesel prices in the good ole USA..but in Canada diesel prices SKY ROCKET in the winter...I knew diesel fuel was more expensive, but scoffed at all the negative publicity since you usually get better mpg...however with the sudden spike in diesel costs (especially in the winter) I am not sure if the savings is really worth the premium you are paying any more....

I guess we will need a number cruncher on this forum to tell us if Diesel is worth it any more...or if the price spike is only in cold weather climates (i.e. Winter in Toronto)

My 2.0d is giving my 30mpg in 80% city driving.

The x3 is a bit of a bus.....I would never buy the 35i on this chassis. It would kill me to see such awesomeness wasted!

My Euro spec 20d with a manual box has managed 38.6mpg over the last 9,500 miles. Not bad since I use the car primarily for commuting around town and other short trips. If I have a longer journey I prefer to take my M3 - it barely exceeds 20 to the gallon, but it's a lot more fun!

I agree !
But Diesel is also taxable and even with the higher prices I am considering the higher MPG a trade off for faster 0-60

It's a shame you don't get the 35D as it's faster than the 35i. Note it's not the same engine as the US 335d.
