After reading Motor Trends Blog on the 535d in England and then checking out the BMW UK Site, this engine looks amazing, biggest questions will be when do we get it and how much of a premium over the X3 35i will it be?
-BMW UK site reports it at 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, where the 535i was 6.0 seconds, so the same engine in the X3 should be around 5.2-5.3 seconds! -The article stated getting 36 mpg highway and ~24 mpg in bad city driving, average of 30 mpg for the whole trip (all in US numbers), again on the UK site I compared BMWs fuel numbers (using percentages not actual numbers because of the conversion) and it looks to be about 30-35% better than the 35i meaning we could see 25/35 MPG in the states on this thing. So ~30 MPG average and faster than a 35i, plus probably some sort of tax credit the first year at least, to me its looking like $2K-$3K premium isn't bad at all if thats what it is. Of course in Europe the price difference is huge, around 5,000, which is like $8,000 more in US figures (but the Diesel options on the 3 series and X5 are a lot closer to $3K extra). |

I recently spoke to a BMW CA and requested that he contact BMW NA about a US X3d. He contacted a BMW rep and was advised a x3d won't be offered in the USA for at least several years. I hope the rep is wrong, I'm waiting until Sep.
I have been researching the Touareg TDI, the upcoming GLK bt and the new 2012 M class bt, if no x3d is announced I'll purchase one of these. |

I called a well respected CA several thousand miles away. He is well known on another site. He wasn't trying to sell me anything, in fact, he tried to refer me to a local dealer.

Doesn't matter how well respected the CA is, BMW NA is not going to tell sales guys information that they don't want to become public yet, maybe dealership owners, but thats it (I would even doubt that). If BMW NA confirmed with even a single CA that a Diesel was coming out for 2012 models, it would be all over the place in a day and that would hurt current sales, which is why they would never say it is coming. |

Any NEW word on the X3 35D? Cause I was about to pull the trigger on a 35i but considering the possibility of a 35D.... I think I'll wait till my birthday in Oct.

With sky rocketing gas prices I would be shocked not to see a diesel this fall for the X3 or they will start to lose sales to the q5 hybrid that is coming out for 2012 model year.

And I am in the same boat you are, looking to buy by October (which also happens to be my birth month!), we will have around 45,000 miles on our LR2, warranty and maintenance will be over, can't wait too much longer than that, Land Rover will kill us with labor costs if we try to wait until 2013 models.
