USB harddrive...again!

Armrest USB socket in 2014 X3. No extra tech package

OK so I have a 500GB USB hardrive formatted to FAT32.

400GB of music 59000 tracks either WMA or MP3. All metatagged and in a file hierachy of Artist Initial/Artist/Album.

The drive will spin up and read. Initially the folder search works only with other options greyed out presumably waiting for the metatags to be read and identified and at this point all tracks seem to be available and can be played. Once the system has read the files and tags many albums are missing, tracks that before were playable become unplayable.

There seems to be no pattern to this just a random thing

Any ideas? Is there a file limit?

I have even wondered if removing the tag data would stop the car from trying to sort it but it isn't a small job if it doesn't work!

Garage List
The manual mentions a maximum capacity of 40k tracks with earlier tracks deleted if limit is exceeded
