Software update
I was checking 'Settings' on the idrive menu today and it looked like there was a software update available.
Set the update to load via the telematics but it stalled at 89% for a long while. Got onto the BMW update site and tried to download it to USB. Endered the 7 digit VIN number but got this message... You don't have permission to access /bmw_prod/_common/shared/owners/bluetooth/bin/UPD01004.bin on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. ...so I am wondering what has gone wrong here or whether an update is actually available for the vehicle. Any ideas please. Thanks |

Any idea what this update does/changes? Its just that my car is booked into the dealer next week for a recently released software update, which will apparently fix a problem I have with automatic start/stop bringing on loads of warning lights (which all reset after a manual stop/restart).

There is a thread on this from December 2011. See http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62670 This update is user-installable using a USB drive and the USB port in the armrest. It provides updated phone, bluetooth, and multimedia support.

so does this update allow iPhone users to now access messages and emails via iDrive?

No, that gets fixed with the next iteration of iOS from Apple. Probably later this fall. This has nothing to do with BMW.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this - but performed this upgrade and the Bluetooth connectivity between car and phone became very unstable!! Music streaming stopped working and then phone connection (for voice calls) also failed. Had to revert to previous version of software - and now all is well.
Not sure what I am missing out on by not upgrading (other than it no longer working!) |

I had no stability issues with the UPD01004.BIN update and my iPhone 4S.
Mail and Texts is an Apple issue, not a BMW issue. I'm looking forward to trying out the Bluetooth MAP support, which will be available in Apple's upcoming iOS6 release. Last edited by 02420X3; 09-08-2012 at 10:25 AM.. |

Well thats a disappointment.. it seems the SMS display has now stopped working with the final release!
Tried to update the firmware via telematics, said it was already up to date. |

My car was reprogrammed when they installed the tow hitch - noticed that the car drops the iPhone music ability in Blutooth until I select audio again.

If you select Bluetooth Audio, and then use the White Cable, Bluetooth Audio will not work again until selected again. If that's what it happening then it is working as designed.

Reprogamming/Alarms
I posted separately on the array of alarms that come up associated with the stop/start system. They've "recoded" the car and now the start/stop appears not to work at all - they have just made the problem go away rather than fixing it. Totally unsatisfactory without the start/stop which is a key part of the Efficient Dynamics thing. This obvious type fault is unacceptable and this behaviour by them is reprehensible

Did the dealer disable Auto-Start/Stop, or did they perhaps apply the software update that remembers the last Auto-Start/Stop setting? Try pushing the button next to the Start/Stop and see if it is then re-enabled.

I had the alarms and warnings problem associated with start/stop, and my car had a dealer installed software update (v47.5?) last week. Since then everything has been working as it should, and all previous settings and functions seem to be as they were. I can only assume that the problems posted above are caused by incorrect software installation procedures by their dealers.

A new software update is available on www.bmw.com/update. It is revision v1.005. I can't tell what is really changed from the documentation because it is almost the same as v1.004 version's document.
I have downloaded it and I will install it tonight. |
