X4, 5GT and 3GT side by side
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com No doubt X4 looked way better than the other two in person. The slope line for X4 is just more aggressive IMO.

I have come to realise: X4 looks like a coupe on high heels - it is more natural when lowered the 35 mm you get with a H&R lowering kit. (Fits both X3 and X4)
A boxy SUV looks natural with high ride height - not so X4. |

I may be the only person out there to own a 3 series GT then ditch it for the X4. The X4 is a better ride IMO, absorbing NH road bumps better with excellent handling for this type of vehicle. Had the 2.0 engine in both cars. The GT had some features that BMW will hopefully add to the X4: '2X' hood release (just pull twice on the lever then merely lift the hood - no under-hood latch to deal with); rear seat release levers that can be reached when standing behind the vehicle. I do miss the large rear seat area but rarely really need that. I just had 5 adults with hiking packs in the X4 with no issues. Like the X4 very much. The rear proportions of the GT were 'unresolved' and a bit odd - never got used to that.

Have base model, neither M-Sport nor Xline. 18" wheels with Pirelli 245/5R18 Cinturato P7 tires. Premium and cold weather packages, Sophisto Grey with black/brushed alum interior.

Happy to hear without vdc ride is smooth, everything I read without it it's firmer than X3 and I do like the X3 ride.

Now put an X1, 328i wagon, and a 435i Gran Coupe in the mix.

Yes, they all look the same! The only reason why the x4 looks the best, is because they handled the rear door properly. The door placement on the other vehicles make them look bloated. Their proportions are off. Audi made the S7 look sexy. BMW just can't get the rear angles right. |

I have a 5GT, MY2013. And going from a 2012 X6, I can attest to the fact that the 5GT is superior in every way possible. It is easier to load the children for both myself, as well as my 5ft (on a good day) wife. It handles better, and can even be, dare I say, enjoyable at times. Much, much more usable cargo space. As we as, due to the fact it is built on the 7 series platform. The interior comfort is much greater. It is truly a gem for family and practicality purposes. And lastly, I have XDrive, and it is far and away the better winter vehicle. Anyone considering any of these, please save yourself the headache I went through and go with the 5GT XDrive (if your climate privies you to harsh terrain). You'll thank me later.

What is the purpose of these cars? Seriously?
Why would go for the 3/5 GT and not the touring? Assuming I need the trunk space. Looks? I'm just confused as for the need for these cars. |
