Hello,

I just replaced my oem battery from bmw after the car needed a jump for a couple of times. The original battery was 7years old and was at 8v and 8%state of charge according to bimmerlink. After replacing the battery. I turned the car on and let it run 10-15mins before I did the registration process. Turned car off. Put it in ignition mode and registered new battery. The state of charge of the new battery is 6% with 12.3v with accessories on. I did a multimeter test to the battery and it is 12.79v. Didn’t clear codes before registering. Then went to clear codes and these are the only codes left. (Added pics of codes) What do i do?

Hook back up to Bimmerlink and go to SENSOR VALUES. Look for the sensor value info for the battery voltage at the IBS. Hopefully it reads 12 volts or higher (since you have a new battery).

Perhaps since you started the car prior to registering the new battery...that the system was communicating with old data...and hadn't adjusted.

The battery "state of charge" reading and the IBS data can give you two different readings. Below...you can see the battery state of charge from my X5 that had been sitting for a while. I was checking to see if it needed to be hooked up to my Battery maintainer...the state of charge was at 66% (1st pic). I also checked the voltage at the IBS which was at 11.67 volts (2nd pic)...and after I hooked up the maintainer...the IBS's reading changed to 14.87 volts (3rd pic).

A few thoughts new batteries are usually not fully charged when bought. I would remove the battery and fully charge it, and check the voltage with a good multimeter before installing it. Assuming it all checks out reinstall the battery and run the car and if all ok then register the new battery with bimmerlink. Thats what I did when I put in my new battery and have had no problems since.

A battery that registers 12.79 volts is most likely close to fully charged. That 6% cannot be right. I assume the car starts fine? Pretty sure a battery at 6% isn't going start the car.
