Dreaded Drivetrain malfunction message

All...need advice as my hair is thinning

I have a 2013 X3
Engine blew last year with 97000 miles. Shop replaced with lower mileage 77000.
after I drove a few hundred miles we started getting an occasional Error (Drivetrain). Over the next few weeks the message got progressively worse and would appear several times during a estimated 50 miles drive with the car going into limp mode occasionally.
Skip forward. I have changed coils, plugs, fuel pressure regulator and high pressure fuel pump. While it has improved ,this is what I get now.
Car will alert each time I go from park to driving. It will only do it once and never goes into limp. Usually appears within the first 5 minutes of travel and then I can drive endlessly and it will not appear again unless I stop place in park and start driving again. No codes on scan tool. all advice appreciated... thanks

What kind of scan tool? One that reads BMW codes or just a generic OBDII scanner?
