MMI Installation - X3/F25 (2014)
I recently brought one of these boxes in order to use apple car play. Wiring it up was the easy part and I had it working but where I run into problems was fitting it, ensuring the trim was flush and back to its original state.
Firstly I discovered there was no additional room the extra wiring harness, therefore the extra bulk did not allow the head unit to sit flush. Secondly the original video cable was a very short length due to it being tacked with other wires when the car was made I assume, which restricts where I can put the box. I tried fitting the mmi box on top of the head unit as there as a small space but then the head unit fascia trim would not go back on or sit flush. Do you have any helpful suggestions for installation, where's the best location to install it? Any advice would be real helpful, as I'm at a loss. |

Agreed. Space behind the screen was good on my install. Had more trouble with the harness for the iDrive. It comes with the larger old style and the newer smaller plug in the same wire bundle so I cut off the large one I didn't need and taped off the wire ends. It made it easier to fish the bundle through a tight space and left some real estate under the center console trim
