Is this really a 6 speed Automatic ???
Been driving BMWs for 20 years now and typically turn my own wrenches on them. Owned my 2005 X3 for 3 months now and thus far it has been a great vehicle.
Question, from what I've read, the E83 3.0 has a 6 speed automatic transmission. But when I move the stick over into sport mode, then shift up and down manually, the instrument cluster will never display M6 (6th gear)? It shows M1, M2, M3, M4, and M5 or is it MS? But no M6. However in my father's 2007 525i, when manually shifting his automatic the cluster does in fact show M6 gear. Thoughts? |

It's a 5-speed automatic. You can check the owner's manual here:

As mentioned earlier, 2007 model year (e83 LCI) went to N52 engine and 6 speed GM automatic transmission.
