Carplay availability / retrofit possible?
When did Apple Carplay (or android auto) become available on the X3? which option code identifies it? If not included in the original build, is it possible to retrofit (easily, P&P component swaps - not major surgery)?
thanks! |

I've asked this question months ago but didn't get a definitive answer - I would have expected simple coding is the answer as I doubt any additional hardware would be necessary but as yet no-one has confirmed..

The option code for CarPlay appears to be 6CP, and requires ConnectedDrive Services and upgraded Nav, so maybe it can be coded on earlier models with those, but I'm no expert. Unfortunately, I have an Android phone, which get no love from BMW. I would love to get Android Auto working, would be nice to control spotify without having to take my phone out of my pocket. |

Carplay is by far the most useless option I took on my car.
1. To get your contacts, you need to take your phone out of the wireless charging cradle.....a hell if you want to make a phone call. 2. For music, put it on a USB drive and you have it too 3. As a GPS.... not needed ad BMW offers you at least the same switched it off...... waste of money.

With Carplay, is it possible to control Pandora without having to use the iPhone itself?
I can easily stream Pandora via Bluetooth in my 2016 28i but I have to hold the phone to select/change stations etc. This is certainly dangerous while driving and, as a result, I use Pandora in the car a lot less than I would otherwise. I would be very interested to know f my existing system (609 Nav Prof / 655 Sat Radio) can be upgraded as I have had my X3 for well less than 2 years and I am not about to replace it in the near future. |
