What's up with filling the windshield washer tank?

Went to refill the windshield washer tank with fluid for the first time since my wife got her '18X3 today. It took nearly 10 minutes to add a gallon! The filler opening does not appear designed to accept fluid unless it is trickled in. Am I missing something?
