Hello everyone...hopeful new BMW X3 owner...
Hello all, just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. A friend of mine told me about this forum so I joined right up and wanted to start posting. I am an old BMW owner who is now returning. I went astray for a few years and ventured into the land of MB, LOL. Anyway, I am hoping to pick up a new BMW X3 in the next day or two and just wanted to ask a few questions.
Any big differences between the 2013 and 2014 models? Anything I should know or anything I really should get? I wanted to go with the 2.0-liter/TwinPower Turbo, inline 4, xDrive (they said it is "intelligent all-wheel drive" although I am not so sure what that is, LOL). Is that engine, power, etc. "OK" so to speak? I am coming from an ML350 4Matic which had a 6 and while I don't expect the X3 with a 4 cylinder to equal it, I don't want a laboring, slow, etc. type of engine either. Thank you in advance to all the resident experts for all of your insight and help. |

The inline-6 in the 35i -- that's the bigger engine option, right? Sorry, I'm a real X3 newbie. LOL. |

Question for all of you -- the dealer has a 2013 demo model with about 4k miles.
It has a dual pano-sunroof, power liftgate, upgraded wheels, a few other items, etc. They want to lease it to me for 36 months with 12k miles a year. The money down is big -- like 3k down which includes the tax and other inception fees. They want $479 a month. Any thoughts? Thank you again very much in advance. |

Have you tried configuring an X3 using BMW's online tool? It will help you decide what options are of interest to you, and how much they add to the cost. Experts in leasing generally recommend negotiating on the price first before determining the lease terms. The primary difference between the 2013 and 2014 model is the upgraded optional navigation system, including a nicer black panel display. Upgraded standard equipment for the 28i included a universal garage-door opener, auto-dimming int & ext mirrors, ambience lighting, power tailgate and split rear seats. |

The demo model was a 28. I had "built" a new 28 on the website, but totally missed the lease special you pointed out -- and thank you very much for that. I didn't have any idea what a new one leased for and I think the dealer may have "upped" the prices he was throwing around on a new one so that he could make the demo look like a great deal...which it turned out not to be (more on that later).
I don't have all the details on the demo 28 because I left the spec sheet in my office. However, it wasn't a long list of options/packages. I passed on the deal. Next day, the dealer called up and said they were going to "take a loss" on the car -- and now it was $500 down!!! And the same $479 a month. I know the nature of the beast, and I understand the business side of the car business...but this type of thing really rubs me the wrong way. Thanks again for your help and insight. Quote:

Or you could do a used 2011 28i which is a 6 cyl standard, 241 HP, 0-60 in 5.5 secs, and no annoying start-stop feature. Mine gets 28mpg on the highway, cruising at 75-80.
And you need a different dealer.... |

The 2011 28i certainly has a sweet, smooth naturally-aspirated in-line six, but its 0-60 time is likely somewhere in the high 6s - 6.7 or so, I believe. Negligibly slower than the new turbo four (with a fair bit less torque), and a second slower than the 35i.

Make sure you see a MSport in person... The Msport, Nav & Lighting package was a must... After I drove the X35... that was also a must... But IMO, the aesthetics of the Msport package is an option i couldn't do without...

You will be happy with a HUD. Try it out, worth the investment.
