530 a tank is pretty much what I have got over the last 10 months and 18,000 miles on mine.
I have now adjusted my OBC and it is never more than .3 mpg out from reading and calculated.

38mpg gives 530 miles by the way. I am sitting at 38.5mpg currently.

I have tanks where I get much more, and have had tanks where it is down to 34mpg, but 9 tanks out of every 10 it is 38.5mpg.

That is interesting. Similar to the 3 litre engine. Averaging 38.1 mpg actual using fuelly.com over 10,000 miles.

I carried out a procedure in 2007 (on BMWLand site) to reconcile my OBD with my actual on my e91 325d and a managed similar accuracy!

Do you have the procedure to do this on the F25?

On the 30d I had for a week I was roughly 6mpg lower in all situations, on the 5 mile school run that dropped to 32mpg on the OBC, which when I calculated was around 15% out.
My 20d OBC was 21% optimistic!

Interestingly I have just had the use of an F31 330d and over 1000 miles it was showing 48mpg, impressive! However when calculated that was only 37mpg, still impressive that I got nearly 500 miles from a £60 fill up, just annoying how out the OBC can be.

I can feather the 20d though, if I sit at 70mph everywhere I am up to a genuine 700 miles from a tank, I just can't be bothered.

Calibrate BMW MPG

1. Hold down the odometer reset button and turn the ignition on by pushing start/stop button.
2. Release the odometer reset button, and you should see a menu of 4 items on the dashboard. From here on, use the odo-reset button to advance to the next entry through a short press, and to select through a long press.
3. Choose the one that says Unlock through the above, which will take you to a passkey screen. Your passkey is the sum of the last 5 digits of your VIN. Increment the two-digit number until you get to it, and with the long press of the odo button, select it.
4.then scroll down to correction factor and modify it from 1000 to whatever you require.

Standard factor is 1000 going up above 1000 reduces the mpg on the dash, below 1000 increases the mpg reading.

I think I set mine to 1200 to get it correct.

Thanks for that. So if I am regularly showing 41mpg and wish to correct to 38mpg (the actual shown in fuelly) I should adjust the figure to 1200 ish?

If it is showing 41mpg and your actual is 38mpg you are approx. 8% optimistic, so try setting it to around 1080 and see how you get on.

Sort of ignore the 4th zero, think of it as 100.0% and you are adjusting in percentage, so add 8% so it thinks it is consuming 8% more fuel than it does at the moment, hence the 108.0.

Does that make sense?

Thanks. Yes.

It looks like I will be playing around a lot in spring of next year after I have returned from my long holiday trips.

Just an update. Thanks for the information, I adjusted mine to 1080, and found it over corrected over a full tank by about 3%. Not to bad, but I would like to get it as close to actual (fuelly.com), so, today I reset it to 1050. I will keep track over the next tank or two and let you know how it progresses. That could be a long while because we are off to India (Goa) for 2 weeks very soon and then after we return we are off to the Dominican Republic for 8 weeks.

I put mine on at the end of October! Just in case you understand. The car will feel happy sitting on the drive for 8 weeks wearing different rubber.

At least the battery charger will be earning its keep.
