First of all, there is no "BMW hitch" so clarify what your dealer means. The BMW hitch won't be available until September or later.

Based on what I have seen, execuhitch is the only brand with a model for the 2011 X3 right now.

CURT manufacturing does make an X3 specific hitch for the F25. I just ordered one and will post reviews once I have it installed in my car.

Awesome! That must have just come out. Only $280. Looks like a great option.

Do a search on line, I found the Curt hitch for as low as $135. I am having problems ordering, shipping issues, I live in Germany.

Good news indeed!

Interesting that it is showing as a Class III hitch (load capacity 3500lbs). This coincides with the rest of the world towing capacity, but is different then what was originally told to me. Originally, I was told it was going to be a Class II hitch, which would limit it at 2500lbs.

I noticed you can download install instructions from the Curt website, which is very helpful. There is nothing complex about this install, but it does require removing a lot more pieces (including tail lights and bumper cover) than any other vehicle I have put a hitch on before. So I would say this is not for the faint of heart. There will likely be some tricks to getting off the tail light trim without cracking it, for instance, and it will take two people to properly handle the bumper cover (do not let it twist or bend under its own weight or you'll risk flexing the paint).

Leave it to BMW to make installing a simple $150 hitch so hard... On my current SUV, the hardest part was lifting the hitch in place under the vehicle. I didn't have to pull any parts off the car at all.

Does anyone have a picture of the Curt hitch installed? I'm looking for an alternative to the OEM hitch and the Curt instructions don't have a really good straight on photograph.
